Question Question for anyone who has done a cam already

I am reading that I need to torque my old crank bolt down to 240 lb ft, did everyone do this? If so I can get a new torque wrench and I am guessing a MASSIVE pipe to use with it. Just curious what everyone else is actually doing.

The arp bolt torques that tight, the factory is 37 ft/lb plus 140* of rotation.

Don't use old bolt to pull pulley back on with, use an installer.

Do use the old bolt to fully seat the pulley, prior to new bolt installation and tq.

Here is a good article on pulley swap how to:

I was able to find a longer bolt to put the pulley on, I am more just curious if the 240lb ft is indeed needed. It sounds like it is, so I will have to buy a new torque wrench.

Thanks for the replys.

Well guys, I have another question for you.

Well, I am running into an issue. I can't seem to get decent ptv clearance. bought an additional lifter(HL124) and filled it with washers to make a "solid" lifter for testing. I filled it to the point that I can just get the retaining clip back into the lifter. I used this as my inspiration. http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/lt1-...urposes-623939

I am working on a piston that has a .04" flycut in it. When I use clay, it seems to chop the clay off, implying to me that there is no clearance. After trying this about 4 times, and not getting a result I liked. I rigged up the dial indicator to sit on the tip of the rocker are, on top of the valve, then measuring how much additional I can push the valve down. At one point in the rotation, it seems like I cannot push it down any further than the cam is lifting, implying again that I am basically touching the pistons.

Do you have any thoughts on what could be going wrong here? I can't imagine I have that much clearance difference than rhino has on his car.

It certainly can be! I have seen some people trash their crank threads doing it that way, but as with everything... YMMV! I would say that if you get enough threads in before you start knocking on it with an impact gun you'll probably be just fine.
