Tinted 3rd Brake Light - Page 26

Finally caught a gap in the rain this morning to put mine in (car is filthy). Very easy to pop out with trim tools. Not so easy cleaning up the leftover gunk. I did have two chips at the far right and left edge where the tight curve is. I didn't see them until cleaning off the gunk but the new unit covers them up.

On a side note: why do we even have a 3rd brake light? It's not any higher or prominent then the tail lights. I'm guessing all cars have to have them but the placement kinda defeats the purpose.

I tried the trick of pressing down hard on several points, but that didn't work. So I took it to the dealer and after sitting in the waiting room for an hour, the guy came back and said that the tech got the trunk to open, but couldn't open it again. So they think it's the "trunk actuator" and are ordering the part. Will be here in a few days.

I got home and decided to slap the light a few times trying to pop the top into place, since I also have the gasket gap others have. I thought maybe the top of the light wasn't clicked into place. I think I may have cracked it, unless it's condensation. It rained really hard the night after I installed it. When pressing the top left corner, there is water squeezing out of the gasket. I guess I'm going to have to take it off, remove all of the adhesive for the 2nd time, and add the 3m tape that was posted here.

It's the fact that it's in the center. If you are ever behind a modern car with a blown center light, you will notice that the tail lights can hard to see at times. I truly believe that tail light visibility has decreased due to form over function since the center light was introduced. Also, a good number of car use just a single light in the assembly for both brakes and turn signal making the center light the only constant brake light.

3rd brake lights became mandatory for saftey/visibility. To me it boiled down to drivers not paying attention and not noticing the person in front of them was coming to a stop.

Installed mine this weekend. Looks great. Btw, was at the Pepsi 400 and the pace cars were ZL1s, red hot with this brake light and they looked great.

Got mine done today. Pleased overall - I didn't protect the bumper well enough and ended up with some scratches. Thankfully the ceramic coat is getting done in a couple days. Not sure how I feel about the red SS badge now.

It's amazing the difference the lights make. I am thinking I will change out to a black SS.

Looks good! The only reason I may keep the red SS is because it does tie in with the Brembo pads.
