Check your oil level!!!

Based on another thread I saw here I checked my oil level today - car is at 2,650 miles. It read low - just at the very bottom of the dipstick hash-marks.

It took 3 1/2 quarts!!

Personally I don't mind performance engines eating oil, but I'd hate to see someone have a problem. Check your oil level regularly!!

Checked mine today after seeing the other thread. 1150 and reading full on the dip stick. Haven't changed oil yet. Waiting until 1500 miles to change it.

I'm surprised to see that much tolerance measured in the hashmarks (assuming you filled until the top of the marks?). 3.5 quarts!

Checked based on the other thread as well and mine was at the top. I meant to check right after the oil change itself. Though I did look at the quantity they put on the invoice just to make sure that at least had the correct amount.

These engines are crazy in how different they are from engine to engine (both the LT1 and LT4). Some eat oil, and some don't. I have about 3,500 miles on mine since the last oil change and that includes 4 track days and 3 auto crosses and it is still reading full. It burns no oil. Others go through oil like crazy.

Do the V8's have a low oil level light on them? My V6 does. Because it's gone off when I was about 2 quarts low as I changed the oil…

Surprised one did not go off here......

Good point. The link here is the "other" thread which OP got a light only being 2qts low. Also surprised that 3.5 low didn't produce a light. Still curious that the bottom of hashes to the top of hashes is 3.5 qts.

I did not get a low oil level light - which is concerning. I'll be making a habit of checking it regularly...

My first oil change was at 2,000 miles with no oil loss. If I lost 3.5 qt in 2,600 miles I would be concerned, to me that's unusually high even for a motor that's not broke in yet. Of course that's assuming it was full when you purchased it. Food for thought!

Between the hash marks is not 3.5qts...more like 1-1/2 qts.

It is also surprising to me the amount of variation between cars. I've done 2 track days and an autocross event and having burned a drop of oil.

This is when the break in theory comes into play.

I'll add to my post above (I don't burn any oil) that although I didn't drive it too hard until 1,500 miles I bought it with like 130 miles on it so I'm sure it was beat on pretty good before I got it. I've never been one to baby an engine from the beginning and subscribe to the "drive if hard from the beginning" theory.

Getting my first oil change tomorrow, this should be interesting as I would like to know if my vehicle has burned a lot of oil. I have about 60% oil life though

On these oil changes, I would think its appropriate to put in 9.5 qt and check level and only add more if needed or do you put in all 10 its and hope it doesn't go over?
