Do yourself a favor and keep it out of manual mode. If youre uneducated enough to know why your car has "lag" and is "sluggish" when you try and floor it in any tall gears, then you should buy a cheap mountain bike and learn why proper gear changes are important.
i know im feeding a troll but maybe just maybe......... |

Keep it in auto, don't mess with traction or stability controls at all, drive it carefully and see if you can find a high performance driving school to give you some tips on how to drive the car in a safe environment. If you want to practice driving technique you might consider autocross after getting some instruction and watching some youtube vids.
Good luck and have fun!

My first thought when I saw the title...
There is a reason this country is moving quickly to self-driving cars. Also OP, there is a reason I learned a long time ago you never buy a nearly new, low mileage car with a great price... They're probably "jacked" up. |

OP: there's no shame in not knowing, we all began from scratch, too. In addition to the great resources others already mentioned, you should watch every Engineering Explained video on youtube about gearing and transmissions, torque and horsepower, it'll help you understand what's happening.
On the other hand, I'd edit the title of this thread and get rid of "pathetic" in there and the comment in brackets. You are doing a disservice to the designers and engineers behind this masterpiece (as well as other forum members) with such a hasty and ill-advised title.

You should have just got a manual Trans. Automatics are just so difficult to learn to drive. |

The whole point of manual mode in the A8 is to give the driver total control of the transmission shifts. So that means you have to down shift it into the correct gear so the engine moves up into the power band(peak torque) which is around 4200 rpm and then you have to upshift it manually around 6400rpm. You can't just floor it in 6th gear from 40 mph and expect the car to do anything with the engine RPM around 2k. You would need to hold the left paddle and then it will down shift into the optimal gear for Wide Open Throttle acceleration which would be 2nd gear from 40 mph. That being said you should just leave it in Auto mode and let the computer do the work.
