Whipple on Stock SS Clutch

At the track (drag racing), how much do you think this stock SS clutch can take with my whipple setup? I have been leaving the line at 4500-5000 with a smooth semi-quick clutch release with high 1.6x-1.70 60 fts. Kind of hard to really explain, but I havent smelled the clutch yet and I am not hanging on to it to much. I have about 30-40 passes on the car.

Looking to try and send it this Sunday, maybe start around 3500-4000 and almost dump the clutch and see what happens. Trying to get into the 1.50's for the 60ft and hoping for a 10.50 or better pass.

Running MT ET Street R bias 28x11.5-17, with DSS axles and Gforce AL DS. Figure the worst that can happen is a smoke the stock clutch.

Its amazing how much the stock parts can take. The Camaro diff finally broke after 240 plus passes. The stock tranny and converter are still in the car and it has 13000 miles on it so who know how long your clutch will hold up but with those 4500 rpm launches it sure ain't helping it any. You got it running good and hope you can get into those 1.50 short times your hoping for. Good luck.

What did you replace the diff with Stock SS stuff, is the ZL1 stuff any different? What actually broke? I guess this could be the other potential weak point, but gotta think it would push thru the clutch before breaking the diff.

Its a stock diff and I'll need to find out since I sold it a few moths back. I still tune it for the new owner.

Maybe this post should really be in the transmissions section, BUT I never made it to the track on Sunday since some test hits on the street Saturday broke something in the actual trans. So I will be pulling the trans, getting it beefed up and rebuilt, also throwing a Mcleod or RAM clutch in at the same time and a hurst short shifter.

Ouch! Good luck with the rebuild. You’ll be back at it in no time.

I'd keep it here, it's most definitely forced induction related. I was also impressed with your 60ft on oem clutch. Bummer about the transmission, I'd imagine all that torque down low on sticky tires had something to do with it. Hope its up and running soon, should be able to cut a 1.5 60 ft when all said and done, that should hurt some feelings for some automatic guys out there
