Trailering questions
Hi all. I am looking for an A10 ZL1 and have a few questions related to trailering one back home. Since I live in Northern Illinois, driving it home at this time of year is not an option. I am working on a deal on a car that is 650 miles from home. I have a dual axle (7000 lb) 18' x 7' utility trailer that I modified to use as a car trailer. I put E-track on it and have 4 wheel straps and wheel chucks to secure the car to the E-track. The issue is the trailer has 1' high rails that are not removable, so I can't open the door while the car is on the trailer. I have a wench mounted to the trailer so I can wench the car up with the factory tow hook. My questions are:
1. Can the A10 cars be shut off in neutral so I can wench the car up onto the trailer? 2. If I left the drivers window down, would there be enough room to reach through the little window and engage the e-brake, or better yet, put it in Park? 3.I would also need to be able to roll the window up for the trip home. Would I be able to reach through the window with the key fob and cycle the ACC, RUN and OFF modes and roll the window up from outside the car? 4. I am too fat to crawl out through the trunk with the back seat down. If the above will work then I will have my 12 year old son crawl through the trunk when we get the car home and disengage the parking brake or put the car back in neutral. Does any of this make sense to anyone? 5. Does anyone have a better idea here that I missed? Thanks in advance for any help here. |

Climb out the trunk. When you get home, open the trunk with the key fob and unload it.

if your current trailer is not enclosed rent a uhaul if it is enclosed I would take your shoes off drive it in and go out trunk like Choda suggested. If it is an open trailer its not much better than driving it home on a dry day which I would not do. Enclosed is the only way to go this time of year in snow country.

I think your better option here would be to rent an enclosed trailer...

I might be able to get out through the trunk, dont have a similar car to try it on. I have looked and cannot find any enclosed trailers to rent in my area.

Just off the top of my head, I think you're going to need to be in the car for virtually all of those things. You're going to have to step on the brake, or hit the button on the dash, or the e-brake. And I don't know any way to roll the window up from the outside of the car. You can roll it down from outside the car but I don't think you can roll them up.

I think it may be possible, but it is not going to be easy. The first issue I see if the typical ramp on that type of trailer is going to be too steep for a Camaro. The second issue is you're going to be pretty tight on both sides (I'm guessing around 4"). Are you able to get to the car (once loaded) to strap it down well?

I realize you have a trailer already, but you can rent this one from uhaul for like $140. It has the fold down fenders, so you can get out of the car and leave your windows up. I left mine in gear, and of course tied down.
