Changed Diff fluid today. Definitely looked necessary. Reminded me of the oil at 900+ miles. Definitely had a metallic presence.

For my 2016 Z06, GM recommended a 500 and 1500 oil change.
I would stick with that for the break in oil changes for the ZL1's.

I would wait until 1500 for the rear diff.
You cant track the car before the 1500 break in anyway, so why do a 500 mile rear diff change?

Because you still get a bunch of metal shavings from the gears breaking in as you see from the above post.

I changed my oil and diff fluid at 500 and 1500 miles. Both times the diff had metallic shavings but a lot less on the 2nd time. Its quick to do and cheap.

I mean, technically all this break in stuff for the ZL1 is recommended. Doesn't mean you have to. It's not like the C8 or CT5 Blackwing that actually limits your RPMs until you hit 500 miles.

Plenty of different options here on when to change the diff fluid.

I don't think anyone is going to run into a diff failure if they wait to do it at 1500 miles after following proper break in.

Advice needed

I got my new 2023 ZL1 1LE 10A 3 months ago and have 500 miles on it. I've had a pretty spirited break in so far using all the gears, rpm's (to 4 or 5k), brakes, tires (warmed properly), etc. and want to do the right thing next.
Should I change the oil, differential and transmission fluid? all three or some combination? anything else?
Whatever I do now I want to do again at 1,500, or should I? Please advise and I thank you all for your knowledge!
I have already signed up for Limerock and Poconos in May so need to put a 1,000 more on in a month.
Been using my 2010 SS so huge jump for me in performance is an understatement.
Thanks, Rob

How hard can you push the car during this period? Are you supposed to stay under a certain RPM? I think I read somewhere in this forum that it’s recommended to stay under 3,500.

Isn't 4k rpm the limit for first 1500mi? For my car, I would accelerate and leave it in 2nd or 3rd to let it coast down in gear to give the opposite piston walls some break in.

Its all in the track supplement but you can't change the engine oil or diff often enough. Yes change it at 500 miles to get the fine break in metals out. After break in its more about how hard you use the car, but annual on the manual trans and before every event for engine oil and diff is what I do (about 4 events/year).

Thank you, I am reading as much as I can before first track event.
What about the automatic transmission fluid change? It's hard to get good info on that.
Thanks

Mobil1 Supercar is the Dexos2/Dexos R variant. Fwiw, anyone tracking a ZL1 with track tires should consider using 15/50 instead of the 0w40 since lateral grip will approach that of a ZLE.

Preliminary:
Regarding the 500/1500 interval, right out of the gate..

So remind us, what is the recommendatation? Oil and differential fluid change at both 500 and 1500 miles?
