OIL USED FOR TRACK DAY

I am getting ready to go to road America in WI. and the owners manual says to use 15-50 oil but to only use it for 4 hours and change it!!
I drive car there and back that is 4hrs right there then run it for 6-25 minute sessions sat, and 6 Sunday I would like to know how long you can run 15-50 and could it be used for a couple thousand miles?? I always start car and let everything get to temp. before driving??

Where do you see that? What page?

Oil should be checked and added, if needed, during track use then changed when the oil life says to or every 5k.

15-50 is not Dexos approved, so in addition to slightly worse gas mileage you'll potentially have greater carbon deposits if you continue running it.

Well thats not true (carbon dep) as thats all i run,so i do know from experience. It might make the cats last only 10 years instead of 30

I will never run 0 w anything in anything I own track or no. Its straight for gas mileage. Its not enough that one vehicle is gonna notice but a fleet yea that might help get under government regs.

At least run a 5w something and in our cars a 5w 40 minim.

After sizing a rod and looking at the internals from running dex 0w40 I will never put 0w in anything. Nearly all the rod bearings looked to have almost like chatter marks. Cam bearings surfaces were terrible. 15w50 Mobil for me.

thats after I broke a stock rod at about 1100. All bearing surfaces looked great, even the journal that had a broke rod looked great and spun freely.

Do a google search it talks about how the 0w just barley meets the minim for lube while being thin for gas mileage. Then u add stress and power then what? Does it still meet the min. I dont think so.

My 2020 Silverado calls for 0w20. I do 5w20 and keep it stock it gets unbelievable gas mileage.

Rant out

0w or the first number is the base oil. the second number is its characteristics at operating temp if I'm not mistaken.

Number one is base viscosity
Number two is the heat of the environment

So 15 is helpful under load and 50 is helpful under heat

But I am an Electro-Optical-Mechanical person, not a fluid expert

I’ve run 15W-50 for 5k+ miles and 4 track events. I change it every other event so about every 1500 miles and it’s been perfect with no issues. I use Mobile 1 with ACD filter
