Help! Trying to locate air bag fuse(s)
I was wondering if anyone could help me with locating the air bag fuse. I am trying to pull it before a track event to avoid unintended deployment of those curtain airbags.
I was looking at the fuse box but couldn't tell. Thanks in advance

When in doubt, disconnect the battery.

Let us know if you are still able to use PTM modes with it pulled.
I pulled a fuse that I thought was for the airbags at an autocross practice shortly after getting the car and there was a warning message and I couldn't use the PTM modes. The handling also felt much worse with traction/stability control fully off (long hold of the button) than it did when fully off with the fuse in place. I haven't experimented with it again since then but the 6th gen side curtain airbags are less sensitive than on 5th gens. Hopefully the 1LE package has some additional leniency included too but idk. |

I experienced the same thing. Car felt very sluggish when the fuse removed. I think it also disables other things too as I already turn off all the nannies by holding the TC button for about 7 seconds. I returned to paddock and put back in and all issues were gone. I think I will need to find another way to disable curtain airbags, removing air bag module maybe?

You're right. I skimmed his post too quickly. Thanks for the correction.

I believe you can unplug the side curtain airbag connectors and replace them with the appropriate ohm value resistor to make the car think they are still connected and prevent any airbag system errors. If the airbag module tried to deploy them with the resistor installed nothing would happen.
I'm not comfortable driving with that setup on the street for insurance and safety reasons though so I haven't tried it. Depending on how long it takes to remove and reinstall the plastic A pillar covers around the windshield sides to access the connectors, it might be doable after arriving at the track. But I'm usually too busy unloading, adjusting tire pressures, and putting numbers on the car to have time for anything else before the first session. |
