I think I am going to get IGLA installed. An installer is coming to St Louis to train others and I may work with him to get an installation while he is in town.

For those us that were thinking about getting a Ravelco, you really need to watch this video.
It was something I was considering strongly before I found IGLA, but it's completely off my list now.

Interesting video, but I would be more interested in an independent evaluation and blind test as opposed to a You Tube demo by someone who installs a competitor's product.

Questions about the demo include what prep work was done before the video and what "clues" were available by virtue of having the correct plug for the car.

Well, he showed exactly how to perform the diag procedure to arrive at the wiring combination for the Ravelco device with his pulsing tester, the plug never needed to be at play. It makes sense and don't see how he would have cheated. He did mention several times that this requires a key, which, as we have learned elsewhere, takes a thief all of 30 seconds to program with an OBD-II device.

The idea here is that the tester uses short pulses to avoid triggering a fuse blowout. These testers likely didn't exist or were prohibitively expensive when the Ravelco was designed, and it may never have been updated to defend against them.

Seems to me this is one of the most effective , reasonably priced and easiest to install ideas. With the battery in the trunk , you mount the kill switch on the battery and use the supplied remote to power the car on or off.

Is there any reason why this wouldn't work well to deter thieves? Has anyone put one of these in, how well did it work?

Edit - Here is a YouTube Video of a guy putting a kill switch similiar to the one below on his Camaro battery -

He says it works great, had it on since Aug '22 , doesn't mention any issues with the device (other than the windows have to be reset when you power the car off then back on) and he has been active on his replies , most recent reply to questions just a day ago - below is one example off of Amazon, there are quite a few different models available

Don't know. I'd be intrigued about what happens if it fails though (while the car is running). With the starter relay, at least if it fails while you're driving it wouldn't be a problem, but I'd be worried if this failed and disconnected the battery while driving.

That being said, I like the idea...

Have you looked at the specs for that setup?

- Doesn't work once the temps drop below freezing by more than a few degrees

- Max current rating is 360A with a 200A rated continuous rating

How do the remotes work? For $25, I'm guessing you're not get rolling code security, and the thieves could likely just clone that at the same time as they clone your key.

Personally, hard pass based solely on the fact that I would have to carry yet another fob around with me. It's bad enough that I have three of those monsters already for the different vehicles in the house (and the one for the truck I can't even carry in my pants pocket because the buttons are constantly getting pressed and causing my doors to unlock unknowningly).

So I had decided to try and go with a 3prong strategy for my 2SS 1LE, but I need some help. I want to put a kill switch on the fuel pump, but need to know the best location to add it. I have been through this whole thread and most of the kill switch suggestions and info are on the ignition system. Can someone please help me the best place to add in a kill switch on the fuel pump?

Like you, I’m going to use a multi-prong approach. For my safety, I’m not going to post much detail but kill switches will be part of the mix. For everyone’s safety, any communication or detailed instruction should be handled by DM or phone. And I wouldn’t communicate anything with a new member or one without a clear/long history of camaro ownership.

Finally, I’m no electronics expert but my cousin is so I’ll be using him. If no one here is able or willing to covertly guide you, I recommend getting it done at your local car stereo/alarm installer.

Dabjbr,
First, thanks for your reply. I agree with most of what you are saying which is why I didn't go into specifics on my complete plan. You can see the timeline of my Camaro in my signature and join date that starts before that. I am mostly a lurker, but I do have over 100+ posts on this forum alone.

That said, my brother is more of the car guy (more of an import guy though, so not sure if he can help me or not) and I'm mostly a techie person, but I know basic mechanics.... enough to feel comfortable with doing the work myself. What I don't trust is my knowledge of modern vehicles, which is why I was asking the question. I just need specific wires or points pointed out to me and I can take it from there.

All good! And to be clear, I don’t think you’re a scammer. They’re pretty obvious especially those on Facebook selling parts for cheap.

Lucky for me, my cousin does electronics. Once I get it done, assuming it’s soon, I’d be happy to selectively share with the right people.

Definitely agree, though, we need to be careful about what's posted. Not too hard for anyone to get to this forum and see what techniques people are using to protect their cars and subsequently figure out how to get around them.
