Validation of the Camaro SS

The S/O and I spent a couple hours Saturday playing at the Jaguar dealership in Baton Rouge. They like us and they did invite us over to enjoy the new XE.

This is in the For What its Worth category. I drove the XE RWD with the 340Hp mill (same as in our XF). The XE was very tight. Steering was spot on. Placement, in the corner, was easy and nearly second nature. However, I think Jaguar has pushed this into the Sport side of the equation a bit too far. The ride was a bit more harsh than in our XF Sport (a good bit). The other point was that the back seat was tight. 4 adults going anywhere would be very close quarters. It didn't tick the boxes for me. For the <$5K difference between the XE and XF, it would not be a close decision.

I still love the F-Type. They didn't have the 380HP (F-Type S) version with a 6M (drat!). I made do with the automatic. This is still one of the nicer coupes out there. It is truly a great place to ply the trade of driving. I like it. The price / performance point still remains way too high for entry at this time. The F-Type S is undeniably a Jaguar, inside and out. The build quality is just exceptional. However, I find the build quality of my SS-2SS to be more than acceptable. The content on the SS is very high and the $30K difference in price makes my decision much easier to take. The performance of the F-Type S is strong, just not SS strong. This is where the dollars really add up. Moving up to the R is pushing the Jaguar easily into 6 figures. No doubt, with 550HP and the AWD setup this is bordering on supercar territory. This is territory that would necessitate other compromises. I'll pass on those choices.

The big time surprise was the F-Pace. We drove it on a whim. This was just a wonderful vehicle. The handling was simply top- notch. Performance was strong. The interior was the best of the cars we drove (no XJs on this trip -- still the high water mark in my book). We are actually considering a consolidation of two vehicles into 1. It works that well. The S/O stated that she could live with this.

I definitely know what you mean about the F-type. It is probably THE sexiest coupe out there. My neighbor got one in gray about a month ago, and it looks awesome sitting still, and I don't like gray cars generally. Jag has good lease rates, but not quite to the point where I can make it work. However, I'll take my loaded 2SS in the meantime.

She is fine with Significant Other or Better-Half. Boss works as well.

You and I are in the same spot. My lease payment on my 2SS is tolerable. The $200-$300 more per month for F-Type S is just a bit more than I would want to have. The R would run twice as much per month. A bit bigger bite than I want to take.
