Not quite 10s but close at MIR Dragway

Took the ZL1 to MIR Dragway for a rental in its nearly stock form. The only "mods" are a Tony Mamo ported throttle body and Green panel replacement air filter. Stock Goodyear Supercar 3s were used at 24-25 psi. Track prep was decent and the car could handle a brake torque launch of 1200 or so on the stock tires after a reasonable burnnout. Big Dave watched me in my quest and failure to not quite get to the 10s.

Most of the "issues" I had were due to a lack of seat time as the car is honestly quite easy to drive and modulate. My best 60' run which could have and should hve been a 10.99 was ruined by my attempt to use the paddles to shift the car. In other words, you are likely to be worse than the car and the suggestion is to just leave the car in "D".

Suspension and drive modes are no secrets so here is what I used. I have Eibach sport lowering springs too which did not hurt or help anything with regards to drag racing. I placed the car is "S" for sport vs "T" tour due to the performance shift algorithm being active in "S". The settings screen was used to place the exhaust (sound management) in "Track" mode. No launch control or line lock was used either. The traction control and stabilitrak was disabled with the "seven second hold" of the traction control button until both lights on the dash illuminate...this is not a PTM mode!

Atmospheric conditions were amazing as all of the runs were in negative DA. According to Dragtimes DA calculator, the DA was -1000ft at 11:57am. Race weight was 4190lbs with driver and 3/4 tank of fuel. Here are a few slips to check and notice the best 60' was coupled to a lackluster run due to sloppy paddling...:(.

Great job! With a few more runs under you you'll start hitting 10s. I don't remember for sure but wasn't the advertised time for an A10 an 11.4?

I did the same mods to my A10, glad to see someone getting some data on what improvement they have the potential to provide.

Even hot lapped and still had an improved time. Good stuff and yeah those paddles are pretty much just for fun. Great 60' with stock tires too.

Great job indeed. Thanks for sharing the information as I have the exact same mods BUT haven’t had a chance to hit the track yet. I am very encouraged based on what you were able to accomplish. How much did you heat up the tires? Those weren’t bad 60 foot times and I totally agree with you, had you kept the car in ‘D’ instead of paddle shifting you would of gotten the 10.99. Now you have something to strive for over the next few months. Good luck with that. Now if this damn snow would simply melt where I live (yes i know it’s mid April ) I am hoping to take the beast to the track and see what she’ll do!!!

Yeah...hot lapping is no problem. The cooling system is amazing and I checked the upper intake and it felt cooler to touch after a run. I am also running the road course thicker oil (5W40) which could have produced a bit more parasitic drag. 5W30 is more drag strip appropriate. Oh, get those front tires to 40psi also...every little bit helps!

Yes, Chevy states 11.4 in their literature. That is an easy number even for a botched run with -1000ft DA.

the paddles are slower than the TCU is...

I read an article 2 years ago I think when the 10spd was introduced that said it could have been faster had they not included paddles. The ECU has to monitor the paddles which slows down the whole thing... It was an interesting read.

Great runs! Has anybody run a tune only A10 ZL1 or bolt on/tune only ZL1?

It's a shame that on your best 60' of the day, the paddles were your downfall. The car definitely has the ability to run 10s, you proved that you had the ability as well. That 1.71 60' would've been that magic ticket ride into the 10s for sure. It's a shame the track started going away later.

Wow, you're sitting low!! Looks good! Nice runs. Keep at it. You'll definitely get there as long as you keep nailing those low 1.7 60s.
