EXHAUST RECCOMENDATIONS!!!

Hi guys, I just bought a ‘16 2ss 6spd w/o NPP. Ive spent about every penny I’ve saved the past 2+ years to get this car, and I only managed to get the car because I got a killer deal on it. Car gets here this Friday.

I’m 18 and I couldn’t find a car that had NPP and wasn’t like 6 grand out of my budget. I’m looking at several options for exhaust, but I do live in California and Smog is something I need to consider.

I don’t gave much to spend, probably less than $800 in the long run, but I want the loudest, most obnoxious sound I can do for the money. If you’re not into that, cool, I can’t afford a borla. I’m considering cutouts, but all of the videos I’ve seen aren’t that impressive and I don’t like the idea of the exhaust not exiting at the tail.

I’m also looking at a muffler delete, but I’m not entirely sure how illegal this is. I see Harley guys and Honda civics with straight pipes all the time and they’re never being pulled over. I obviously wouldn’t be jumping on it around cops, but the CHP around my town are total pricks and wrote me a ticket for going 65 on Highway one in a Subaru Forester. I don’t really have an issue with pissing off my neighbors or any of that, I just don’t want to get pulled over and given a fix it ticket. If anyone has experience with this, that’d be great

My next thing is secondary cat delete, I’ve heard this adds more gargles and pops from the richer content of the exhaust, but wouldn’t this fail smog?? I’ve never dealt with smog and am not familiar with the procedure.

I’ve considered glasspacks/cherrybombs, but I’ve heard these don’t last very long and don’t sound as good as the muffler delete.

I’m open to other suggestions, if anyone has any!!

Thanks

Lives in Cali, 18 yrs old. Wants our opinion, then says he doesn't care about our opinions. Wants to piss off everyone around him. Yep, sounds about right.

I love the cynicism you seem to have! I didn’t mean to suggest I wasn’t open to opinions, in fact, I said I was! I just don’t want the guys that’ll come on to a muffler delete thread and suggest a borla exhaust

Where in the **** did he say he's not open to opinions? lol. Post a suggestion, if you don't have one then move on with your life.. lol

By the way, I'd go with cutouts. You can close them up on the highway around CHP. I personally never got in trouble for my straight-pipe.

Open headers case closed! Next topic

Muffler deletes are loud but not an attractive sound secondary car delete with the stock exhaust isn’t money well spent, cheapest exhaust that sounds good is the MBRP if not save your money till you can afford something more.

That's right. MBRP does have one of the cheapest axle/catbacks available and provide amazing sound!

A guy from my school had a square body with open headers and it made my ears ring

My issue with a lot of the exhaust systems I've seen is the NPP requirement. I don't want to have to spend 300 to buy and ship the fascia here, another hundred or two to paint it, and then add the cost of the catback...

My friend has a borla cat-back on his 5th gen mustang and it's ridiculously loud and sounds amazing, I'm attracted to a cat-back option because of him.

Many of the big names in exhaust also have a non-NPP option so that you don't need to get the valence.

SLP Makes a cheap muffler delete option, however cutouts get my vote as they are the best of both worlds

I’m not sure what the exhaust requirement in CA are. If you can find a shop to delete your secondary cats, do it. I honestly don’t think it would affect emissions enough to fail. Next I’ll tell you what I did; I bought a car that didn’t have NPP because I wasn’t willing to spend $900 for an optional GM exhaust, just to take it right back off and pay another $1500 for a NPP compatible exhaust system. I bought a 3” X-pipe, Flowmaster super 10 mufflers, Flowmaster 4.5” tips, all stainless steel. Took it to my local, reputable exhaust shop and had them install it all with 3” stainless pipe. My total cost for everything including install was around $700-750.

The Flowmaster 10’s give it a nice deep tone, I don’t like the “tinnyness” of the stock exhaust. With the secondary cat delete it would get a bit raspier and it would certainly be a good loud.

MBRP sounds great...got to remember your neigbors may hate you though.

Once I install catless headers/xpipe I think I am putting my stock NPP back on and also installing cutouts into the piping. This way I have it all. In your case the only way to have the ability to quiet it down is to leave the stock system and add cutouts.

If you don't care about ever quieting the axhaust down then MBRP for the win and spend the extra on Stainless. Exhaust sounds awesome and ZERO and I mean ZERO drone on the highway. I love mine...gonna be too loud for my neighbors at 5AM with catless headers though.

Enjoy the ride and you are one lucky SOB to have such an amazing car at a young age.
