U-Haul Car Trailer to Pick Up New 1LE?

I put a deposit down on a new 2022 1SS 1LE that is in transit to a dealer about 175 miles from me. I own a 2016 Toyota Tundra, and I think I want to trailer the car home. Has anyone used the U-Haul trailer for such purpose and do you have any tips for using it? I am worried about the front spoiler, etc. Should I back the car on the trailer, for example? I searched the forum but did not see any threads.

The car is black, 6spd with only one option other than the 1LE: red seat belts. I have no idea what I am going to do with those because I don't think I would like them. I think they come in the trunk so I am going to tell the dealer not to install them.

I joined this forum in 2013 while thinking about buying a Camaro, and the conservative, practical side of me talked me out of it (I am late 50s). I have not posted since 2013, so this is my first new post. In fact, I forgot I was a member until I tried to join and I got a message that I was already a member. LOL.

Thanks

By the way, if I post the VIN can someone figure out when the car should arrive to the dealer?

Don't back the car onto the trailer. You want the weight biased towards the front of the trailer.

Watch this for a visual aid.

buying a brand new 50k plus car. Pay to have it transported. Why take the risk with a crappy u-haul trailer

I've not tried it personally, but looking at a few other posts I've seen (google "camaro6 uhaul" without quotes) it'll only fit on specific uhaul trailers and will be a tight fit even on those. If you do trailer it, have the dealer put the front shipping spacers back in the front springs. That will lift the front end an inch or so and help keep the splitter from scraping while loading.

I'd also recommend figuring out how to drive it back instead of towing it. That'll be 175 miles towards the 1500 mile break-in, just have to follow the procedure in the manual (don't drive over 80 mph, don't drive at a constant speed, don't do any hard accel/decel, keep RPMs under 4k, don't engine brake, etc.).

Addressing one of your other comments. The seat belts come installed. Mine came with red. When you're in the car driving, you're really not going to care what color they are.

Thanks for all the replies. No trailer then. I will drive it back. My gut told me it was dicey to trailer it. I just wanted confirmation. I do not want to be on youtube with a video of a disaster.

Somewhere I thought that I read in the specs where the seat belts came in the trunk. I guess I will live with them if they are installed and since I am paying $200 for them.

You could just swap those red seat belts to someone who has black and preferred red. They might even pay you for it. Not sure how much work it is to remove them though.

I've actually thought of a nostalgic reason for keeping the red seat belts. My late older brother, who was the original muscle car guy in our family, had a fast 1978 Trans Am back in the late 70's with red interior, so these will be my hat tip to him.

He was an auto guy (even though he was great with a stick), so I already felt bad about not getting the A10. I mainly got the stick because that is what I could find and make a deal on (same with the color). It just worked out that way. They are getting harder to get in TX so I did not have a lot of choices (most of the ones shown are sold when you call about them).

Ive had my 1le on a uhaul a number of times, not a problem at all. You need to use some wood to adjust the ramps but otherwise works just fine. Also mind the splitter at the front

What do you mean by adjust the ramps with wood? Are they too steep?

I considered doing the same thing, but ultimately got my son to go with me to pick up the car and drive it home. The dealership where I purchased my car was 220 miles away. I'm glad I drove it home. And it helped with the break in as we took mostly back roads home.
