About to drive my new ZL1 home - 8 Hour trip. Front end protection ideas?
So to those that have drove long distances in their ZL1's, either taking it home from a distant dealer or taking a long trip/cruise. What would be a great "temporary" solution to put on the front of my brand new ZL1 to protect it from bugs and rocks on the way home from picking it up??
I plan to basically have the whole car PPF wrapped when I get it home, so I'm not interested in a basic front PPF unless its something I can install in the dealers lot before I head out. Nothing that would need a pro to install. I know the bumper masks are out there, but they require you to start pulling out screws in the fender liner and under the hood to attach. I would prefer NOT to do anything like that on a brand new car just yet. What other solutions are out there? The car is Red Hot, so Im toying with just getting some Red painters tape and just spending an hour taping the whole front in a parking lot or something. What else has worked for you all??? |

I drove mine 1400 miles and didn’t tape it. Now I live with a front ding under my later installed PPF. Tape it

Trying to think out of the box, how about getting PPF instead professionally in the area you're picking the car up at? Painter's tape will work, but it's pretty ghetto, and you know Murphy's law, if you leave as much as a square inch untaped, it'll get hit by a beefy rock.

Main thing is stay WAAAAY far behind the car you are following, avoid traveling behind trucks with big tires and especially avoid duallies (4 tires to kick up stones)... Leave lot of room, someone changes lanes in front of you, slow down and give them lots of space... There is a lot you can do to reduce/avoid the chance of getting stone chips, leaving lots of space behind the car in front of you is the #1 way...

Same here that was my first thought. But I know its dumb but it makes me cringe to be pulling out brand new screws out of the fender wells and under the hood to replace them with the screws that the mask snaps to. Its not hard and easily reversible, but I dont know its dumb I know. And on top of my idiocy the mask is $150. The painters tape is $4. lol
