Beware: Mice find the Cabin Air Filter a Great Place for Nesting

A friend of mine with a 2016 SS called me yesterday looking for info on where the outside air enters the interior. He said for the last two weeks whenever he ran the heater or air conditioner it smelled like something died inside his car. I told him a good place to start would be to check the cabin air filter and sent him this link.

A few hours later he sent me these photos.

That means the mouse ate through the corners of the cowling. Tell him to check near where his hood struts are. That's how they get in there... You will see chewed up plastic.

My friend's home is on 5 acres of land out in the country. He has three garages on the property and parks his SS and his wife's Cobalt in the garage closest to the house. His SS isn't driven every day. In the winter months it can sit for several weeks between drives.

Tell him to get one of those electric mouse traps to put under his car. Might prevent a future problem.

I set traps around my car. The ones called "black cat" or something worked the best. Must have caught way over 50 through the winter; typically one every day. Had the car parked in my garage bay of the barn.
Destructive little b--tards!

A mouse crawled into my son's Honda engine intake and made a nest. He drove all the way home from college (3 hours), and said, "the car's running a little off, not the same amount of pickup." With the engine running, the intake pulled all the nesting material into the engine air filter.

Stupid mice!

This came out of my '15 Terrain that is my DD, but sits outside. Went to change at 22k per manual. Haven't seen any evidence of the little bastards in the garage since I finished it about 10 years ago though.

People buy cats? People give them away all the time where I live.
