Starter issues
Just went to my car to fire up the first time this week and got a click from the starter. It’s the original starter with 80k miles on it so assuming that’s the problem. Battery is good and added a booster pack to try and start but had to run out and take daily. And recommend starters to replace it with? Seems like summit has a ton of options.

It don’t come easy.

I’d verify the battery condition and then check the wiring and the solenoid on the starter.

I would be surprised if it's the starter with that low of milage. My starter has 170,000 mil on it and still going strong. Like others have said either battery or ground connections.

376 cubic inches of fun

If it's clicking, that's an indicator of insufficient voltage at the starter.
Check battery connections and starter connections before spending money on a starter. |

Tried it a dozen more times and it started and started fine now. I checked and wiggled the power cable under the hood and noticed the bolt is rusted is this normal ?
Also see people do a jumper on that cable to increase voltage what do you do exactly?

Rusted connections are never ideal. Remove and clean it up, snug it back up and I’ll bet you’ll be good.

Dont do the jumper, cleaning the connections will do the same thing. I’ve had the same starter for probably 150k miles.
I think the reason my current one is still going is because there’s a brand new one on the work bench lol

Do a big three for ground cables. Use 4gauge marine grade wire. One from battery to ground, another from bell housing to chassis and then another from engine to chassis.
Also, take out your battery ground wire and scrape up the part that touches the frame to remove the paint. Take the bolt out and you'll see what I mean. The idiots at the factory painted the part that the ground wire touches and it doesn't provide an ideal ground. |
