High Mount Brake Light 2012

So my high mount brake light went out on my 2012. The replacement for it is costly enough found it for$102.00 But how in the world is it replaced? Looks like I have to take most of the rest interior out! Some one shed so light on this for me.
Thanks

If you are referring to the one on the rear deck then that would be correct. Look up the steps for replacing the rear speakers and it would be the same process as that.

Yep that's right. A complete pain in the rear end. You have to take the side panels off and everything before you can take the rear panel off that is over the light. I don't remember you have to take the back seat loose or not in order to get to some of the stuff though.

Back seat has to come out in order to remove the side panels. Terrible design

Mine went out long ago. I debated replacing it when I replaced my rear deck speakers, but...meh.

I was wondering if I could somehow wire in an LED strip into the housing somehow to avoid having to replace it with another crappy unit, but no idea if it would work. From what I understand, the replacement lights are just as susceptible to failure as the factory light.

I just had mine done by a friend that works on stuff like this every day & he made it look easy but I would have struggled with it. It is more cumbersome than hard. How are is your patience & skill set.

InFiD3ViL,

I watched some vids & sure enough the black diode in the middle was bad. We thought about running a pigtail off the power to hook up a led strip for when it craps again but time ran out. I will see how long this one lasts.

I replaced mine last year. It was a relatively easy except getting the back panel that covers the speakers back on was a pita. I broke one of the clips and now have a buzzing sound coming from the area now with my loud exhaust. Just take your time and you should be fine.
