A lot people think the ash % just has an affect on emmision parts which is true bit it also effects DI intake valves.

Amsoil is great best wear protection, best TBN of like 13 if I recall for longer intervals but it's ash/ saps are to high.

You are never going to exceed what mobil 1 esp can protect against and your never going to go double the oil change life recommended intervals!!!!!

Why screw with a high sap/ash oil?

You can Cleary see the amsoil email states it's greater than 1.0 it does meet dexos 2 in 99% of dexos certifications but 1 (low saps ash %) and its not on the list.

If any one should run Amsoil it it's me!

Shouldn't use that type though. That's why they have a Euro Formula, MS. Dexos 2 Spec.

But it's 5W-40 instead of 0W-40, so it will be a bit thicker when cold. May or may not be a factor for some people, but I personally would prefer to follow the 0W-40 recommendation.

Barely any difference. Were talking about -25c to -35c. Its mostly for emissions and fuel consumption.

I never use anything but M1 15w50 in my 2018 ZLE, it's only $5/qt.

It's only a track and canyon car and I change the oil every 1-2K miles. I live in CA where the temp never gets below 40 F and is usually above 60, so no point putting in 0w40 between track days.

If I lived where it gets below freezing, I would also use 0w40 in winter.

I'm glad you pointed to that amsoil 5w 40 that just proves my point all those great additives are gone and the TBN number dropped to the same as mobil 1 now your over paying for the same oil for same protection.

I've been trying to make the point any great antiwear oil is high ash with a high TBN number. Make it low ash and bam all those great additives are gone.

That is probably just fine to use just not smart for 70% oil change a lot of equal products for better price.

Mobil 1 esp 0W 40
Shaffers 0W 40
Driven DI
Penzoil ultra platinum hellcat 0W 40
Valvoline modern day vehicle full synthetic

Those are all the ones I have seen the oil specs I'm sure there are more.

Jack jack jack... Mobil 1 0w40 is like pisswater. Both my cars it consumes more oil and loses viscosity much quicker then even motul xclean 5w40 or amsoil 5w40.

Its also a mid saps oil, not low saps, and your quoting Driven DI40 which is even more money then amsoil.

I pay $10.69 a quart for amsoil, driven is $14-$15 a quart, Mobil 1 0w40 is $10 a quart. Not sure what your getting at here.

You keep using your mobil 1, ill keep using amsoil.... Really nothing to debate here.

No oil consumption on our ss w 72k miles and its been supercharged since March 2016 and no oil consumption on my zl1 with double your HP for 2 years.

Oil pressure stays constant freshy changed or 4k miles old.. so not sure where you get piss water from..

HTHS of 3.8 this is good stuff.

Was gonna say the same thing. Amazing considering how exceedingly rare an engine failure is oil related be it type or change intervals etc etc. But always entertaining and fun to read!

Now cue all of the posts saying they know a friend of a friend or this and that happened.

I would rather have better protection and simply just change my oil more often. I tend to use 5w40 in my car, either mid saps or full saps.

Few good oils:

Amsoil 5w40 Euro Formula - Dexos 2 Spec Mid Saps
Motul 8100 X-clean/x-clean gen 2 Mid Saps Dexos 2

Driven DI 0w40 - Full saps. (not much info on this oil)

Right now my go to oil is the amsoil 5w40, seems to have less consumption and less viscosity breakdown then others Ive used.

Mobil 0w40, never cared for it. Oil pressure was always lower, didn't seem to last long.
I run the Motul X-clean oil. Good stuff.

Why are people on FB losing their minds acting like I'm going to ruin my engine running ESPx3 0W-40?

"It's European dummy, says right on it, you're in North America, it's the wrong stuff."

(Not to be confused with the straight-up European spec oil)

Infuriating.

Have you had any problems with your oil pump or has it failed? I have read in the oil pump failure thread that the 0w/40 may be helpful in preserving the oil pumps on the 2017/18 ZL1s.

Mine failed running 15w-50 mobil 1 but I'm not sure it had something to do with it. Oil was up to operating temp and running great after multiple hits. Then bam, pressure started fluctuating and eventually fell to zero when I came to a stop.
