I sold my ZL1 for a 16 2SS because I hadn't modified it yet and the A8 SS is on par (actually faster) with a much better interior. I also decided that having a car I drive every day is more enjoyable than a weekend toy and the operating cost is lower with the SS.

I looked at the C7 Z51 before buying the 13 ZL1 and the 16 2SS. The C7 is much tighter inside than either Camaro and I didn't like rolling out of it.

I was actually curious about the age deal and started a thread a while back asking such...I didn't go back and do a count but recall most replies were indeed over 30.

In the '80s I used to buy a new z28 every year.. You could do that because cars depreciated less as a percentage. I would only lose $12-2000 on each car because they were priced correctly. Sometime in the late '90s GM decided to price vehicles less on value offered and against the competition BUT more on what the market would bear. This brought on huge rebates/incentives and massive depreciation. As far as I'm concerned the only thing that has saved the domestic auto industry is the low interest rates we have enjoyed since about 2002-2003. Although GM is building very nice competitive vehicles now they have priced each succeeding model $3-4 K more. All you gotta do is look at the caddy Cts to see how they killed a brand. Went from 61,000 in sales 8-9 years ago to about 12,000.

It's not just GM. The BMW 5-series, for example...sold 56,000 units in 2013. Cadillac CTS sold 32,000....2016? It was 26,000 and 16,000 respectively.

But this thread isn't about Cadillacs or BMWs.

I understand its a sedan thing. Sales are dropping. But look at the price increases. Tahoe especially.
Not to mention camaro between 2015 and 2016.

If you don't think the ZL1 is a raging bargain, try to price out a 2017 Porsche GT3 - RS. Dealers are asking from $50K to 150K over list just for the honor to buy one, if you can find one. You pay more for dealer markup then the ZL1 costs in total. Sure, sure... the GT3 RS is a different animal. However, if you want to race these things, what would you want to beat on? The museum piece or a real car.

The ZL1 makes perfect sense for the track enthusiast, but how many of them are there compared to the general population. What GM needs for 2017 sales is 1) A petrol head plus 2) someone willing to pay $60K plus on a toy plus 3) someone able to pay $60K plus on a toy plus 4) someone not totally in love with another brand of toy plus 5) someone who doesn't want to take an SS 1LE and add their own magic (you fill in the blank... SC, DR, etc). Need all or no sale. While I have one on order, I just don't see the ZL1 as a high volume car for everyone and some of these might need to be discounted before they go. Just saying.

True. They are increasing prices of some vehicles to increase margins...trucks, luxury. I believe they actually came right out and said - we're charging more for CTS because....because.

The Camaro 15 > 16 prices...I don't think of as the same situation. Yes, prices have increased, but it's proportional to expensive content that used to be option, and is now standard. Turns out that most people who opted for SSs...opted for 2SSs (3:1), and half of all Camaro purchases included the RS package...the percentage is higher among SS cars.

So...they included things like HID lights on all SSs, and called it a day. That drove the price of the car up, right there. After the math is done, I think the price increase across the board from 2015 to 2016 was about 6%. Not bad considering what you get.

+1 It's not. They sold 1800 in 2015, and only a few more than that in previous model years.

Well, of late Pray has had his car to the track and is running within 1 MPH of the current posted ZL1 MPH times and he has what I consider very few bucks in mods. So there is that to consider.

Now motors seem to be going south on this forum with more frequency than I'd expect to see on a single forum as well, so the mod thing is giving some of us pause, but you can't argue with a few bolt ons and a nearly 10 second SS Camaro running 124MPH.

Thanks, Evolved. I guess I go out of state again. Bought my Dually and a GT350 out of state in 2016 because Long Island dealers suck. They don't work with you, even if they know you have this illness (LOL) of buying too many cars. I'll find one eventually.

Some of you guys need to price out just a GTS Cayman. 90k!
But they are worth 84k a year later
It's strange but I don't doubt you could buy a new Porsche and sell 12 months later and it be less than a loaded Camaro 2SS out of pocket.... because Porsche doesn't do 20% off sales and their CPO program holds residuals strong
I ordered and bought a c7 in middle of July and it's now worth 45k. So let's say it's depreciated 20k in 20 months and 4K miles. I would have been better off to buy a 911 GTS for 130k and it would be worth more than 110k?
....but let's not forget about sales tax!!
Bottom line is the value for performance with GM performance cars is unreal, especially when the numbers they lay down are giant slaying. However, the game of driving new high performance cars isn't cheap no matter the flavor you choose.

My first gm car and I love it. No complaints.

Could be my last new GM car ever though because of the initial drop in resale. Will have to see how it holds up in a few years.

I do also have to pile on to what all of you are saying. The pricing of many new cars is completely off the charts. I paid 32k for a fully loaded Nissan Titan le 10 years ago. Today to get a new titan fully loaded is in the 60s. Wtf?

Cts v was a bargain a few years ago, today they are almost 100k. How does this happen?

Local dealership just got in a new mosaic black ZL1 last week and I went to see it. As I was taking it in, I reflected on the changes from the C6 to C7 corvette. Chevy made a grandiose, bold statement with the C7 - the C7 is revolutionary, not evolutionary coming from the C6.

As I sat in the new ZL1, I was comparing to the 2015 ZL1 I drove up in. Aside from being tighter and a little on the claustrophobic side, the interior design feels so much like my 2015. From the exterior, the car is beautiful, but there is nothing about it that stands out and makes a statement. It really feels like some of the edginess of the Gen5 was removed to get the Gen6. I really love my 2015 and am not ready to move on yet, but I think if the Gen6 really "knocked my socks off", and felt like a new model, rather than just a newer / same model - I may have been tempted.

For folks with a Gen5 ZL1, don't know how many will be tempted to dump their Gen5's for a Gen6. Just my impression, I may be totally off.
