P050D - cylinder 7 misfire on cold start

I had a check engine light come on earlier this week. Had the code pulled and that lead me to a misfire on cylinder 7. My shade tree mechanic who also works for Chevy service department immediately said it was a bad injector, and advised to upgrade from factory.

Fuel injectors are a completely new game for me, so if anyone has any advice on a better aftermarket set to install, I’m all ears. My brother told me there are injectors out there that better atomize the fuel, so I would lean towards those if there are available options.

My car is a bone stock 2017 SS. Possibly performance upgrades in the future but none currently planned.

Why would you upgrade injectors on a stock car?

I would assume they would better atomize fuel if the injector is mismatched to the fuel rail pressure and pulse width.

Of all things, atomizing fuel has to be on point on a stock car.
Afr, timing compromised, not atomization

i would get a factory replacement injector and leave it at that. i don't see fuel atomization being a concern with direct injection.

i had 2 injectors fail on my car, replaced them with 2 used ones. the most expensive part was the fuel lines.

my car did not misfire on cold start. it popped and misfired under acceleration, but otherwise drove fine.

i'd get a second opinion of the car before you pay for a repair. injectors aren't the only things that cause misfires.

Hook up a scan tool and compare fuel trims for all cylinders.

Didn't know this was possible, are you talking about a scan tool like hptuners? Or just a handheld plug in tool for diagnosing check engine lights?

Usually if a injector is bad the car will misfire under acceleration. Cold start misfires are somewhat common but they normally do not throw a CEL. I would check the plug wire and spark plug first.

Pro tip: Ignore your brother.

Good idea.
Agree, bad injector would probably show unwanted behaviors under varying conditions.
Things like cold start misfires have to satisfy a counter before they get reported.
