Agreed. I guess I was a bit bummed. I was going to reserve a truck if they announced a $60k model but it looks like it will take them to 2025/26 before they ramp up production.

But...they did, man.

You can literally reserve a "WT/RST" build, which will let you customize your truck to be 60K when your turn comes...those are the ones available come Summer 2024.

How many times are you planning to go to the Ring?

If they said 0-60 in less than 3.5 and priced at 60k I would've reserved one. It is a good looking ride imo. I'm just going to stay with my RC 4wd Whipple work truck and RC 4wd twin turbo play truck it appears for some time to come. Too much money not enough benefit for me. But I do like it. Maybe 2nd or 3rd year model after the bugs are worked out we'll see. I am patient.

Cool, I will have to check that out although I prefer the styling of the Trail Boss much better. I saw that is planned as well.

Yeah, I cant confirm if the Trail Boss will fall under the "WT/RST" group. I too like that one.

Honestly I fully expect my dealership I was forced to pick (NOT my normal dealer, so I have ZERO relationship with them) to say "Congrats, your First Edition is on the way - that'll be $130000 due to our adjusted market value."

I went there today to talk to them about it, build SOME report with them, and I got a "it's just far too early to say what we'll do" - uh, is it? Is it though? You can literally tell me "yeah, we won't screw you and up-charge, it'll be sold at MSRP" right now. But they aren't. So I foresee them literally taking my reservation and flipping me the bird.

I hate dealers. Fortunately due to all of this going on IMO there’s going to be a big shake up to the car sales industry in general. I have a feeling lots of them will go out of business as they switch to an online model.

I am with you on this one. The Tesla buying model, while not perfect, was a lot better than the traditional dealership baloney. I think if they don’t start moving to a direct model and stop all the stealership stuff we hate they will lose most of the younger buyers.

Add in the lack of service required. I am going on 3 years with my Tesla and all I have done is a new set of tires at Costco and added washer fluid. The service center is really only there for repairs, in fact Tesla uses mobile service and comes to you to fix stuff that doesn’t require and lift or special equipment. For example, a charge port replacement, window regulator, tail light, 12v battery, etc. They even come out to you for tire rotations and do them in your driveway.

I don’t think that is correct. I think you can ORDER either a WT that you can spec up or you can ORDER an RST which will come with all the option boxes checked.

I have a 2015 Impala that we bought brand new. All we have done to is is tire rotations and oil changes. Standard maintenance... Not saying that a Tesla doesn't require less of that, but just saying going 3 years with no issues isn't a big deal. Why do you think every auto manufacturer has a warranty for 3 years... (Generally nothing happens in that time frame). I'd like to see what Tesla did if they were the size of any of the big 3. Can you imagine them trying to employee enough techs to do house calls? lol.. They can do that now because they are so small compared to the big 3. How many Fords, GMs, Chrysler's, etc. are out in the world today that need tire rotations or other service that doesn't require a lift? Can you imagine one of them trying to employee enough techs to make house calls as a business model?

I do believe there will be some “new” form of manufacturer certified service centers or something like that. (Old dealerships that get transformed) idk.
The model has been going on for too long. Nothing can last forever. It just took an entire industry shake up like the push for EV. Its not going to happen overnight but something will happen. There’s even an article out there from Ford saying how they’re never going back to pre covid days with as much inventory on the lots. They want it to be an order model. They make more $ that way and dont really have to do incentives. In reality thats how honda and other manufacturers have been for the models like 4runners etc. There was never a huge inventory of the highly desired ones and you certainly paid msrp or close to it.

That's not correct. The First Edition that I reserved has all the option boxes checked. The RST you can order will be more flexible when the time comes.

The First Edition RST is the one that could be reserved. The WT is actually going to come out first though. The WT will hit dealer lots in Spring 2023, the RST First Edition will hit Fall of 2023.
