New GM vehicles AFM
So have driven 3 different new GM vehicles. (Loaners) and I must say that they all have been a lot smoother/unnoticeable almost with the AFM. At least compared to the Camaro. And another 2017 pickup I drove. Just wondered what everyone’s thoughts are with this. Did they finally figure it out after 2019? Granted the loaners were all crossovers and low level vehicles so maybe it’s not as noticeable.

Funny you mention this, because I've driven a couple of GM vehicles in the last couple of years, and I could feel the AFM slightly like I do in the Camaro. These vehicles that you drove, did they all have the A8?
Also, my AFM became more unnoticeable after I had the latest fluid and flush procedure done. |

Can't speak for the Camaro since I have an M6 so I don't have it.
My C7 Z51 M7 isn't bad at all IMO. When I drove it back home I had a long highway stretch and so I thought I would give it a try in the ECO mode. I could tell when it engages and disengages without looking at the gauges, but it's not bad. There is a slight pitch change in the car exhaust and the shifter feels a bit different if you are resting your hand on it(which you are not really supposed to do), but otherwise it's pretty smooth. At least it's not like the early Honda V6 with VCM that will start sucking in oil and foul spark plugs if you use cylinder deactivation too often. Honda got in some trouble with their early attempts.

Same. I had a better time feeling when Hemi Ram 1500 doing it but even then it was really hard to feel it. Ram calls it MDS or something along those lines but it is still cylinder deactivation. That was a 13 model though. My Camaro I can not even tell at all with the 6.2.

My 2019 RS V6 the only way I can tell its doing it is by the center screen displaying V6 to V4 and back to V6 its that smooth.

I had both a V6 and a V8 6th gen, and AFM mode switches were practically undetectable on both, except for the lack of power in V4 mode, of course. As others here, I had to switch the cluster to the mpg view to even see when the car transitioned into and out of V4 mode. If you feel lurches or clatter or rev fluctuations, none of that is normal.
All that said, I had AFM tuned out to protect the trans, and it wouldn't play nicely with the supercharger anyway, it's not coincidental that it's disabled on the ZL1.

I didn't "feel" anything when it changed mode, I just hated the "fart" sound when it changed, so Range AFM delete did the trick for me.

Yea I guess it’s more sound than feel overall but I still think I can feel a little stutter in the Camaro when it switches where in the 2019 and newer vehicles I couldn’t feel it at all. Just wondered what others thought. Oh and side note the A/C windshield fog up problem is still present in the 2020 vehicle Lol! Guess they haven’t figured that out yet!

Yea the two new vehicles I drove had the 10 speed so I assume that helps since the 8 speed was so problematic. I had the new flush and fluid done which eliminated the shudder but didn’t seem to help the AFM feel in my opinion though.
