There are tiny guide teeth that the steering wheel slides onto, and three flat spots around the circle of teeth to make sure you align it correctly. If I remember right, one of the flat spots is bigger than the other two, so there’s really only one way to slide the steering wheel on and align it. The biggest watch out is to make sure the black plastic plate behind the steering wheel doesn’t come off with the wheel because apparently it uncoils if it does. One of the videos on the vendor’s product page points that out.
