For those who had a gtr

Hello guys,
This is a question for former gtr owners...
This time it is not about performance, but trunk space, cabin space and usability of rear seats.
I am about to pull the trigger on either a gtr or a Camaro ZL1 1LE.
But I need rear seats for my kids, 8 and 4 years old ...
Haven't been able to see a ZL1 here in the UK.
How would you compare the Camaro and the gtr?
Thanks!

Haven't owned a GTR, but this car really isn't a good choice for shuttling kids around. They may fit for now, but they won't be able to see out the rear side windows. The ride in the ZLE probably won't be very pleasant for them. And the older one might be too tall soon to enjoy fitting back there.

Maybe consider an M3? IMO that is the #1 choice for a family friendly performance car.

One thing you could try is to test drive a base Camaro with your kids back there, and see how they like it.

This is going to be a weekend toy, not a family car, but I need to stick the kids in there...
M3 is a great car,but not a beast.
Also very popular, value going down quite fast.
Regardless I will probably use it for 3000 miles per year..

The Camaro ZL1 by far has the most worthless rear seats of any car I have owned (GT-500, Challenger, e46 M3, e92 M3, 2006 Pontiac GTO).

The back of the driver's seat almost always touches the rear seat (or at least within an inch), even with me scrunched up in the front (I am only 5'10).

I would do what R3ctivision suggests, and take the kids for a test fit.

My kids are 9 and 11 and they hate riding in the car.
The seats are too small and there is no legroom.
I suspect the lack of legroom is the worst part.

Can you even get one in Europe???

I was understanding the ZL1 1LE would not pass safety regulations...

I’ve got a Whipple charged SS 1LE and a tuned F80 M3. The M3 is the daily, and has two car seats in the back. The Camaro is a track car and toy. I like the Camaro more - it’s just a different experience but the M3 is a beast. Mine has the DCT and with the tune it just builds speed so quickly. I haven’t tracked it yet, so I can’t compare it there.

I think if I had to have only one (either), I’d be a very happy man.

I have a 2018 SS 1LE as well and have been looking at power upgrades. Seems like 50 to 80 HP is all one can gain without a bore and or stroke change plus headers, intake, cam and head work all of which can get you to $15k pretty fast AND make it unable to pass emissions testing (mandatory where I live).

A supercharger can make it through emissions I am told.

How do you like your blown SS?

Headroom at the front of the cabin is taller in the GTR. Otherwise IMHO, they both have same space in the backseat and Trunk. Almost identical.

It’s really going to depend on your height. Even though the backseats are there, I would never personally use them. If I remember correctly, the GTR had a little more legroom in the backseats.

A corvette has more rear seat room than the 6th gen Camaro. The 5th gen also had more rear seat room than the 6th. I’m 5’9 and the drivers seat back is almost touching the rear seat. I suspect the lack of a usable rear seat drives some of those who’d consider a Camaro to purchase a Mustang. If the front passenger can pull the seat forward then the rear passenger would be tight but ok for short drives.

The power is awesome, as is driveability. Working on cooling now, as it gets pretty hot on track. Adding an oil cooler and doing the driveway labs hood vent right now. If that doesn’t work, I may do the Weapon X Triple X coolers and boost chiller. I want to win our class at One Lap next year.

GTR has a little more space, the 6th Gen rear seats will be worthless for you
