How to remove the trunk bowtie and replace with SS Emblem
I'd like to replace the trunk bowtie with a SS Emblem. Has anyone done this and how?
Thanks in advance. |

It's only held on with double sided tape. Just scrape it off, with plastic scraper, and replace with whatever you want. Spraying with some commercial grade wax and grease remover will soften the tape and make it much easier.

Fishing line, heat gun or hair drier to remove. Goo gone to remove adhesive. Done 5 minutes.

I tried the fishing line and it didn't work for me (I'm assuming its a technique thing)
I found just using heat works fantastically: Warm the badge up (i used a hairdryer on high) till it's hot enough to nearly burn you on contact, then i used a trim/pry tool (with a microfiber cloth under it in case i slipped) to lift the edge... After that it just easily pulls off by hand; I found if I was quick, the tape would also cleanly pull off the back of the badges Goo gone for clean up (very little left with this method) did my three badges in 12-15min... Would be even faster with a legit heat gun I assume. |

How do you D-badge depends on where you are. If you're somewhere where you have a heat dryer , by all means use one. However Some of us are in the parking lot where we don't have power. That's where fishing line works. The big thick line doesn't work at all, however 20 pound fishing BRAID will cut through the adhesive like it's butter. It'll also cut thru your skin the same way, so use gloves.
And PATIENCE is the name of the game when using an adhesive softener like Googone or WD-40. Put some on, and in two minutes start tugging on it, and it's going to be a pain in the ass. However if you marinate it for an hour, going out and putting a little bit more on every 10 minutes, the badge will literally fall off … Take your time..... |

are there pins on the bowtie?
I was told there were 2 pins on the rear bowtie. is that true? If so how do you get around them with the line? I took the side emblems off in minutes with NO trouble at all. I want to replace the rear bowtie with a HHR SS door emblem.

Ha ha! That was the problem for sure, the 20lbs 'line' wasn't worth a damn against that tape... I'll give it another go when I get to moving some badges around on the truck; thanks for the clarification!

I used waxed dental floss on the side badges, just make it triple thick and it works like a charm after you warm it up with a hair dryer. Wear gloves!! It might break a couple of times but the dental floss is cheap!

The amount of heat seemed to be key for me. I tried heating it on high with a hair dryer until I felt it was warm enough... still couldnt get it. Then I tried goo gone and spent like 30 min picking small areas of the adhesive off. I got nowhere. Finally, I heated it for a lot longer and it came off in a minute.
