It's interesting you raise that question. We were contemplating a front firing into the back seat, or a rear firing into the trunk, sub setup. I was told that firing into the trunk would give you louder bass, which is what my son wanted. All of my prior installs were done in SUV's or trucks where the sub enclosures were inside the cabin. I was a little hesitant because I didn't want his car to sound like a bunch of rattling aluminum cans. To my surprise there isn't a lot of vibration noise inside the cabin, or standing outside the trunk. When he's ready to upgrade his speakers I will probably use a little sound damping material in the rear quarters and doors, but "I tip my hat" to GM for building such a solid and tightly manufactured car. Just make sure that you re-assemble all of your parts using every clip and screw that you remove.

Testa, here are a few pics of the install "in progress". Sorry I didn't take more pics of the steps along the way. It was just a basic install, but these may give you some insight of what I did.
1.I purchased a few more GM plastic washer/nuts to attach the 1x2 strips to the factory screws locations in the trunk well. 2. I stuck a few felt strips under the wood to make it tight, and that the wood was not touching the metal floor. I'm always thinking what could vibrate and cause noise. |

3. After using some cardboard to make a template, cut your board and sketch your placement of the components. You can use MDF or any other wood that's at least 1/2" thick. Once again, if it's too flimsy it may vibrate.
To the forum: My apologies for the multiple posts. I tried reducing the size of my pics but I still can only upload 1 at a time. Please hang in there! |

4. I connected my power wire to the same terminal that the factory 0/1 gauge (red wire that runs to the engine compartment for jumping) is on, and ran ground wire to the factory lug located On the bottom right. Try and ground all of your components to the same wire or lug, and keep RCA cables away from your power wires to prevent noise in your system.
5. I ran 18-2 for the signal to the LC7i and 14awg from the amp to the rear passenger and door speakers locations. You may prefer thicker wire if your installing "top of the line" components. We had a tight budget.. |

6. Here is the 1 screw that I encountered when removing the interior rear passenger panels. It's behind this tab. I pretty sure the rest are clips, and they are STUBBORN. Be careful. Once removed you can finish your wire runs (remove the sill plates) to the front footwell area. I'll explain in next post.

7. The reason I said "Footwell" will make your door speaker connections a little less painful. I removed just enough door screws and clips to see the speaker wire colors. I attached my wires for the LC7i and amp behind the carpet on the upper-side of the footwell.

8. Footwell area. Just pull back the carpet and unravel the factory tape to expose the wire group that's coming from the door boot.

9. After putting everything back together. I forgot to run the Subwoofer volume control. In the armrest compartment was a simple option. Just remove the butt of the back seat and the rear console piece.
Working with my son on his first car has inspired me to update the system in my Avalanche (it's been 11yrs). Will prob try to learn how to work with fiberglass, building door pods, and other enclosures. I'll use my truck as the Lab Rat and come back to my sons car for future upgrades. This forum has been very informative for me. And I hope that my posts will help others. |
