Slightly bummed with iOS 13 Car Play split screen option

While it works as advertised, it ONLY works with Maps. If you try to use Waze or Google Maps, if reverts back to full screen.

I guess we have to wait for the developers to update their API's, but I was kinda bummed. Out of all the youtube videos I saw showing the new split screen UI, I was excited and none mentioned it only works with Apple native apps.

I agree. It's useless to me since I only use Waze. I doubt they’ll open it up to other mapping apps.

Although full Album art in the Spotify app is a bonus.
(I also recently discovered if you're listening to Spotify, then hit the home button and go to 'audio', it'll show spotify as if it was a standard feature. One day I'll read the manual

I read a review about the IOS13 Carplay and was also disappointed to learn this as well. It was also mentioned that it would be doubtful that Apple would extend this feature to 3rd party Maps so it seems it's less about the developers doing anything on their side to make it work but more about Apple enabling it for others. ;(

At least though if you open something on the phone it won't change the carplay display!.

Really? I'm thrilled I can see my music and maps at the same time... I guess Waze would be an issue but then all you see is Waze anyway so it's no different than before, right?

Before this iOS13 update I would display my music in the gauge cluster screen and leave maps on the center console.

I'm disappointed in this too. I rarely use CarPlay (much prefer Android Auto), but sometimes need to if I only have my work phone (iPhone 8) on me. I refuse to use Apple Maps (use Waze almost exclusively).

Android Auto lets me see and control both GPS and audio on one screen. I can be using either Google Maps or Waze for navigation and any supported streaming audio app.

It's just better. I'd be surprised if Apple ever decides to enable other navigation apps in the split-screen.

The only work around is to have Waze running in thr background, so you still get the audio alerts
