Rear Diff Fluid

I'm looking to change my rear diff but wondering what's the best to replace the stock fluid with?

TIA!

This is what came from the factory in it and it should go back in it!

Yea dude. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Stock fluid is good.

I hit 1500 miles on Sunday, so I changed mine out this evening. It was very dark. Much darker than I expected to be honest, considering all miles are 100% street/hwy. There were no chunks on the magnet, but there was a significant amount of fine sludge on it.

As the others have stated, I refilled with factory ACDelco/Dexron.

Mine looked the same after 1500 miles... I changed mine again just for the heck of it around 4K after 20 runs at the drag strip and it looked way better!

I was under the impression that the bolt didn't have a magnet on it? I know most cars do but I believe I read that somewhere. Possibly could have been the trans I read about...not sure. Would like to know the definite answer.

Also, I say we trade cars straight up. Seems fair to me? Lol. Jealousy radiating from my pores with all you ZL1 and especially ZLE guys I'm 23 so I'll have something like that eventually! I just didn't have another 15k burning a hole in my pocket

Factory ACDelco 10-4034(88862624). Just make sure you change it soon since you did a track day. I changed mine at 2,200 miles with one track day and it looked pretty bad. It's cheap and easy to do. Only need 1 1/2 bottles.

The diff plug/bolt does have a magnet on it.

The oil pan plug does not.

All this info is in the diff/oil change thread I linked above, including where you can get the right magnetic oil plug. Also, the fluid pump you'll need for the rear diff service as well as all part numbers and quantities.

Has anyone in this thread opened up a 6th gen Camaro diff and looked at the parts inside? I ask because I have not. But I do know from experience on other vehicles that often transmission gears and differential gears have a black oxide coating on them when new. This coating wears off into the surrounding oil as all the gears and shafts get to know each other. For that reason, the first couple of fluid changes can be very dark. Again, I do not know if the Camaro diff internals are black oxide coated, but if they are, that is why it is so dark and it is nothing to be alarmed about.

I did mine at 1500 miles and was surprised that it actually needed it. And that was 1500 easy miles doing my extended break in. Also was my 3rd oil change the same day.

I did mine this past weekend for the first time. Thankfully its so easy on this car there isn't much excuse to do it regularly if you are tracking/autox/dragging the car regularly.
