I looked. I also have a 12696048 for comparison, and could tell no differences between the two on the inside, other than there is some visible adhesive between the spring/valve assembly and the core on the 12706595. Gaskets appear to be identical, shells look to have identical dimensions as well. |

I wanted to resurect this thread.
I ordered an AC Delco PF64 and a Wix along with oil from Rock auto. I wanted to see how they compared. Prices were the best I found. But I screwed up and received a box of 12 of the Delco filters. Looks like I ordered the wrong packaging. Ive read things about the GDI engines and particulates building in the oil. So back in the early 90s when synthetics were coming out I owned trucks with Cat engines. As they were trying to justify the cost of the synthetics they were increasing oil change intervals. One of the stipulations for extending the intervals was that you changed out filters at standard miles. My questions is has anyone swapped out filters at half their oil change interval? Since I have a lifetime supply of filters here I am contemplating 5,000 mile oil changes and 2500 mile filter swaps.

My dealership said that this is the high performance race oil filter for LT4's but it's not listed in any of the perforamnce manuals that I can see and my GM service department had been putting on the 12706595 (and older variants) that is apparently used on even the 2.0L Camaro's...
Confusing!

No, it does not have the same bypass valve pressure that is made for the car… EDIT* or perhaps it does?

The PF48/PF48E has a pressure specification of 15 PSI (100 kPa)
PF64/PF63E [GM 12690385] has a pressure specification of 22 PSI (150 kPa). https://gm-techlink.com/?p=7627 - would seem to indicate that PF63E is 22psi variety.

I wonder why they keep changing such a trivial part that costs less than $10, meaning their profit can't be more than a few dollars. What's the point? Even if they reduced total manufacturing cost to $0, this is a just a drop in the bucket, and judging from the descriptions and reviews, definitely not all changes were aimed at longevity and performance. This latest part number is at least the 5th or 6th revision since I bought my car in 2018...

My guess is adapting to supply chain issues. Sometimes steel is cheaper, sometimes nylon is cheaper. Some changes for improved manufacturing efficiency - there was cut away in another forum thread I saw where bypass valve or spring was change steel to plastic or vice versa and another added hot glue to help secure bits in place during assembly.
Sucky part is keeping track of subtle changes in ACdelco part numbers - better off referencing the GM parts #.
