later cars have a standard non-magnetic oil plug also. I ordered a Amazon magnetic plug like Cal’s, and it works fine. The Dimple unit is the “gold standard” for magnetic oil plugs and likely the best. They also charge a hefty amount for the plug. The factory differential plugs are magnetic so no worries there.

Exactly I run oil anaylsis and everything checks out alright and has for years. Have 85K miles on my 2010 Silverado with a 6.2L

Precisely; particulate metal and liquid compounds are present in your oil not only during break in, but also throughout the engines life cycle. Oil analysis can effectively isolate and identify these metals and other compounds and show EXACTLY which internal components are wearing normally or excessively. In many/most cases, oil analysis can proactively help you to save an engine by identifying exactly which component is wearing excessively. Allowing you to replace that component before a catastrophic failure and total loss.

Regardless, metals (most are significantly smaller than a grain of sand) are constantly circulating through your motor. It does not matter if you are using the finest oil and filter available, every oil sample will show particulate metals are present. Most are captured by your filter, the smaller particulate 10 microns or less, are constantly creating wear during metal to metal contact.

A magnetic plug and filter magnets are an inexpensive and effective method to reduce metals that are always present in the oil sump from circulating. Thereby, effectively reducing engine wear. Especially your bottom end bearings.

Thank you closs2sx for the PM with plug sizes for diff and trans on your cars. I conducted more research and found cross-references that validated the sizes listed below. These are very common sizes so it's likely that they'll fit other makes, models, and years. For example, many Mustangs use the Tremec manual transmissions and the GM V6 should take the same size as the V8s.

I figured I'd put everything here in case others wanted to order these - save you some time. I'm placing an order for Dimple engine, transmission, and differential drain plugs; as well as their Super Black Hole filter magnets. Sizes in the table and images below are linked to their pages on the Dimple web site.

Note: Don't expect to get the 3/8" square drive plugs like those that came with your car. I kinda liked those but these are hex drive - last number should be the size of the head in mm. I'm not sure about head size on the NPT plug.

Everything on the Dimple site seems to cost $34.95 ea. I guess that makes bookkeeping easier...

Code:
Component Size

LT4/LT1 Oil: M12x1.75x21

Diff 2012-2018: M20x1.5x14

TR6060 & T56: NPT 1/2

Oil Filter: Super Black Hole
I recommend using thread lock compound when replacing OEM plugs on the M6 or removing originals for fluid changes. The original plugs have it so if follows that replacements should. Loctite 266 (red-orange) seems to be the closest match to the original thread lock material. You should be able to pick up a squeeze bottle or small tube at your local auto parts store. Here's a couple on Amazon:

$19.95 + $5.50 shipping
LOC26773 - Loctite 266 High-Strength/High-Temp (50ml / 1.69 oz)

$14.95 + $3.99 shipping
LocTite 266 Threadlocker High Temp High Strength 10 Ml (0.34 oz)

I'm only replacing drain plugs because I only ever found a minuscule amount of particles on the fill plugs, even with the OEM magnetic plugs. I figure these strong magnets will pull nearly all of it before anything sloshes up on the fill plugs.

Some people may think this is a waste of money when you can buy much cheaper "Neo" (neodymium) plugs elsewhere for less than half the cost. I did a lot of digging and found that most magnetic drain plug producers and vendors do not list the grade or temp ratings. Sales people usually don't have a clue and may even tell you it doesn't matter.

Strength/Grade: The stronger the magnet, the more material it can continuously sequester.
Temperature Rating: Even if it's a strong magnet, if it releases its catch as soon as it gets hot it's not worth the trouble.

Anyone have issues with ordering the from Dimple? I ordered the drain plug using PayPal on April 9 paid the $6.95 for priority USPS shipping and I have yet to receive my drain plug in the mail or hear anything from Dimple. Not quite the buying experience I was expecting or use to.

I got the same story ‘I’m sorry but they were back ordered we are working all day today to get them out’ ..... That’s completely unacceptable cause when I ordered them from your website a week ago there was absolutely no mention of them being back ordered when you accepted my payment in full. Over a week with no communication and $6.65 to ship a drain plug is unacceptable IMO and not how perfer how to do business. I asked them for a refund and will use another vendor.
