I faced this choice recently. Decided to go the SS 1LE way. I had a BMW M2 before this, and a '14 GT "Track Pack" before that. I remember how much work I had to put into the Track Pack to make it track worthy. Springs, dampers, sways, the MT-82 was always a let down, wheels, tires, exhaust ... I did enjoy the Coyote and happy it was to rev quickly. With the short gearing in the Mustang, in 2nd you go from 4k rpm to 7k in like 2-3s. Thrilling powerplant.
I liked the Brembos, but in the end I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole again. The M2 was track ready out of the box with just pads and fluid. Wanted same kind of experience. I will do pads/fluid, track alignment and leave it there for now. Glad to see Ford closing the performance gap, but for $10k the M1 is still missing an active diff. Torsen is not bad, but torque vectoring makes a huge difference. I'm looking forward to smash all my previous Personal Best times at my local tracks. Those were set with the Mustang. The M2 I owned and tracked while on ex-pat assignment in Germany, so I won't be able to directly compare lap times. |

FWIW, our cars don't do torque vectoring and I don't think the M2 does either. E-LSD allows the diff to go from open to locked or anywhere in-between but can't send power from side to side.

You are correct, that's what I meant to say. Slip controllable not torque vectoring.

…since 2016.
IMO the SS 1LE is the best of the gen6 Camaro. Naturally aspirated track star. I’m so pleased Chevy opened it up to allow the 2SS. For only an additional 8 pounds, they made it perfect.

At work today, discussing Mach 1 vs SS 1LE with a buddy at work, who just paid $72 K for his Mach 1. He absolutely agrees, best performance value for the buck, by FAR = SS 1LE
Mach is a nice car, just way overpriced IMO He also has a Cobra he spent 3 years building which would destroy both cars, but that's an entirely different story... |
