New idea for the Cobalt....
So, I was thinking there should be a new trim line for the Cobalt, to go along with the newly turbo SS... What about AWD? Like an American EVO, but in coupe form.
Just throwing ideas around in my head... |

As heavy as the Cobalt already is compared to other vehicles in the class, and as much added weight the AWD system will contribute, I think they need to knock a couple of hundred pounds off the standard Cobalt before putting in an AWD system...

SS Cobalt owners have been asking for AWD since the car came out.

Cobalt drivers would love AWD. I still belong to one of their forums. Someone was working on converting theirs to AWD a while back, but I don't remember if it was ever completed.
They would also love to weigh less. I wish there were some delete options in the Chevy playbook.

AWD and its own sporty design is what the cobalt coupe needs to make to to the next level.

Well, Generation 2 is coming soon...I wouldn't rule it out for a high-performance model. But to adhere to CAFE, I don't think we'll be seeing AWD standard on a Cobalt...ever.

If anything, Pontiac should be getting a small AWD coupe/sedan/hot-hatch to go up against the Evo and STI. The mainstream Chevy can be fuel efficient while the niche Pontiac can go for performance. The 260 hp 2.0L is more than enough to take on the WRX and rumored Ralliart. If GM could tweak it again to 300 it would have no problem running with the STI and Evo.
For the Cobalt, the main things it needs for gen 2 is a waaaay better interior and lighter weight. |

Its not a cobalt, but for a small car, the Vibe offers AWD and with the larger engine.

Now if they put the next gen Vibe on the next gen Delta platform, gave it a very advanced AWD system (steal Saab's XWD?) and dropped in a 260-300 hp 2.0L, holy cow that would be amazing. And unlike other Pontiacs, it would at least get a real name. |
