Catch Can Design, how to get a good one
With catch can debate I thought I would do some research.
First - I don't sell them, and I'm not associate to any business. Second - This not about whether you need one, as everyone is going to have their own opinion, but for those that are going to buy one, it may help you in deciding. Manufacturers strive to separate the most oil they can, Toyota says it right in their patent. This video is more about what makes a good catch can so you can look at the inside and tell if you are getting a good one. Its actually quite simple, and in a nutshell the longer the air-path the better. I'm not associated to Elite in away, but their design does follow the basic principles of good design better than other catch cans I have researched.

If you're boosted it's tough to beat Mighty Mouse Wild, IMO. Running mid 9's and coming up on 1K WHP with the original LT1 crank seal. Those results speak for themselves.

Thats pretty impressive brother, and I know the front crank seals pop out under pressure. One thing I can't figure out is why they could not have made the seal just a wee bit bigger. I don't recall the LS family having those problems. Thanks for the comment

Thats interesting, unless the hole in the front cover is slightly larger? Maybe the LT one is better to prevent oil leaks, but some engineer maybe goofed a bit on the size.. Perhaps. Congrats on 9 1/2 second runs, that's fast !!!!! Superbowl is on so I can't see there being a lot of traffic here today

Never measured it but I empty out a couple times a year. Decent amount for a car that only sees ~3,000 miles a year of use. But I wouldn’t trade cans with someone who thought theirs caught an extra ounce or two of oil just to get the front seal blown out. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting. I've had good results with Mishimoto catch cans in the past. I've have one on two other cars. I was planning on getting one for my Camaro, but may have to check out the Mighty Mouse one.

I think most of the major name cans out there are good. The Elite one is certainly nice. But on a boosted setup I think the MM one is the way to go.

I'm searching for other threads on this subject, because I've seen many. In the mean time, how does everyone typically install their catch cans? Almost finished with my new build, I have a boosted setup pushing 700whp, both valve covers venting back to the stock recycling box along with the intake port for vacuum. MM catch can (mild) will only connect between valley port and intake of the Maggie SC. Seems there will still be vapors, oil, etc. brought into the stock recycle box and drained back into the oil pan. MM will certainly protect the SC and intake, is that sufficient? Somewhere I saw a much more elaborate setup but can't find it yet.

If you like the Elite, and want it to vent like the MM, you can always use the third port as a vent.
