Adjust for inflation has something to do with value increase. Using my 1987 GN for example. I bought it new for 18K. Top dollar today for the same car is 44K. After adjust for inflation 18K in 1987 is 40K in 2020. For investment no increase. The GNX version sold for around 55K today the inflation adjustment would be 125K. Last sold was around 165K. But to realize only 40K after holding on to a car for 35 years only to net 40K on your investment is not impressive. Had you been there you may have put 18K into MicroSoft stock at $25 per share. Today you would be a multi millionaire had you hung on to those shares. You could by a ton of collector Camaros today with that kind of money.

Wow, to have ‘equity’ in a 5 year old production vehicle is saying something. What, I’m not sure? Because in this covid year there have been so many anomalies. I’m in the driveline business (Neapco) and many of my customers are having record years. But many too are suffering. ‘Unprecedented’ year, indeed.

Same here and I still haven't painted them. Luckily my Cyber Gray matches fairly close. Unfortunately my GFX front splitter broke a couple years ago and finding an OEM replacement with hardware is near impossible. Installed an SLP splitter in it's place.

I haven’t checked recently but a friend had just asked me about values and would I ever sell my car. I laughed and said the values had dropped and I’d probably drive it a long time because of the mileage and mods it would last me a long time. Lol I guess what happens when you don’t pay attention

Have to admit it does make me stop and think for a second about throwing mine out there for sale. But even if I was by some miracle able to get say 35k, what would I replace it with for that kind of money?

Don't ask this question on Facebook. Apparently any 5th gen asking anywhere near $20k even with virtually zero miles is insanely overpriced to the Facebook "geniuses". I saw some guy post a nearly stock 2011 SGM SS with about 15k miles on it ask $20k and everyone slammed him for asking far too much. The Facebookers think $14k would be high but more "reasonable".

This reminds me: I really like my 2010 2SS, and no, it's not for sale.

Our cars are depreciating assets. No matter how much we would like to think otherwise, they made way too many of them to increase in value right now. Maybe for Barrett Jackson 2060 though.

My thought as well. Even if the car appreciated by 5K you would deduct from that annual insurance expense, fuel, oil, repairs, tickets, tires, and mods.

Question: Should you buy a relatively unknown stock or a modern muscle car to enjoy? Correct answer: Both. Portfolio diversification is the key to financial success. Sure, I like watching my investments grow but I never got an adrenaline rush from a 14% quarterly increase. An hour with my Z/28 with several trips to 6500 rpm and I feel like I just shot-gunned 3 cups of coffee.
