Should I trade my 2010 2SS for a LT1

So I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS auto it’s just a bolt on car right now (headers high flow cats, intake and a cat back). I was getting ready to pull the trigger and go cam, have the heads ported and do a converter to match the cam. Then down the road go with a blower most likely a maggie

Then the other day I was on the chevy site and built a LT1 car with the auto and the price really isn’t bad. My goals for my ss were 550-600 whp and have a blower doing the cams and heads only came about Because the lifters in the l99 version of the ls3 are a weak point.I do drag race my car at my local track atco when I have time and I drive almost everyday. So I have a few question for you guys about the LT1. If I got an LT1 I would most likely custom order one first brand new car I’ll ever have bought I bought my ss used in 16.

1. Do you guy think it’s better to just build my current older ss or just hop on the LT1 train.

2. The recaros you can option in the LT1 the have the heated and cooled seats but they aren’t wired from what I seen on this forum is that true.

3. How do these lt1 motors handle and drive with boost not looking to go nuts just 550-600whp are my current goals. (Is there room to grow after)

4. How does the LT1 stack up to the 10 speed 5.0 I was looking at those as well and I have a buddy with a 15 pony with the auto 6 we have done work to and its fast!!

5. How do must cars come equipped from the dealer I heard the cars aren’t being built right now so ordering one might take a while. The must haves for me are auto, the tech pack, but I really want the recaros, dual mode exhaust, black wheels

Came from a 2011 myself, I can list multiple reasons why you should, but just to make it short and sweet. Pull the trigger and do it. Even stock, the magnetic suspension in these cars alone that allows you to just throw yourself into a corner in a way that my 5th gen couldnt was amazing enough to make up for the initial difference in power before you start modding.

Well if he wants magride I believe he will need to go to 1SS at least, not LT-1.

I had a cam/bolt-on 2010 Camaro - see my sig for some details. It was a great car and great fun. I have now owned my 1SS for 5 years and have keep it stock except for some cosmetic stuff.

It is superior to the 2010. Even down about 60-70 rwhp compared to the 2010 the 2016 is faster and certainly corners better. The interior and electronics are much improved even when comparing the 5Gen 2SS trim level to the base 6Gen 1SS at the time and now the LT1. I'm on the wagon that says go for the new one.

Good luck with the decision.

Just find a used '17-'19 ZL1 and be done with it!

You'll have your 550+ WHP with no mods, and a full powertrain warranty for 5 years from original in-service date. After that ('23+) you can mod all you like and end up with 700+ WHP easily, and the LT4 can handle it.

Think about what you're going to be putting into that "new" LT1 to get you to your 550+ WHP goal:
Initial cost: 40K (?)
Blower kit: 8K+ (probably 10k+ if you can't install it yourself)
Wheels & tires (b/c the stock 245's aren't going to like 550 WHP): 3k+
Exhaust: 1-2k (?)

With just those you're up to 53-ish+, and you have a car with a voided warranty, no mag ride, and LT1 internals that will never withstand more than maybe 700 CHP without further changes.

Agreed, although now may not be a great time to buy one as used car prices are at an all time high.

OP, my advice would be if you want an LT1, I would try to look for one with just the automatic and no other options. When you build it with the extras you want, you will be deep in the $40K range, for that you may as well buy a 2SS sitting on the lot for basically the same price.

I have to agree about a ZL1! Find a used one and go from there. Sometimes miss my old 2010 2SS that was modded similar to yours but when I get behind the wheel of my 2017 ZL1 everything changes. I bought a used very low mileage 2017 ZL1 back in March 2019 and have no regrets so far. Good luck!

Lucky I got my LT1 when I did in March. They have pretty much dried up here in Canada (at least where I am) I had to drive almost 2 hours to get mine at a dealer. Auto's were more plentiful, MN6 few and far between.

The fit and finish of my 2021 so far seems excellent. I say go for the LT1, base options and have fun!

I am very happy with my LT-1. I was tired of leather and sunroof issues and just wanted a V8, stickshift, and the upgraded stereo.

No regrets, its a fun, comfy car, looks beautiful and I am not in love with the SS Spoiler.

I might add the 1LE spoiler on though.

I will recommend Crush, beautiful color.

A ZL1 doesn’t take much in the way of bolt-ones to hit 600RWHP. We’ve had the cost debate between modifying an LT1, & while its entirely feasible, you get a lot of car that is nearly impossible to duplicate (Such as the eLSD).

If you’re into drag racing the base LT1 is attractive, but I’m not sure if it has Track mode or line lock built in like SS & ZL1’s have.

Some food for thought.

Nope, us LT1s just have sport, tour, and snow/ice modes, that is it (at least mine anyway) Our "track" mode is turning that nannies off, haha.
