How do you turn off collision detection?

I know pressing the button on the steering wheel can change the levels until it turns off, but once you start the car again it is back. Is there a way to permanently disable this? Their is no option for it in the settings, only options like lane change assists and cross traffic alerts.

I turned mine off but since it's been 3 years I don't remember exactly how. It's in the vehicle settings on mylink IIRC. Sorry can't be more help but it's possible. Or could be GM decided to save a few $ by eliminating this feature like they did homelink

See if page 14 in this works for you

I think OP is asking about front collision avoidance, which is a new feature added in 2019.

JasonGofast, if there is no setting in the infotainment to turn this off by default, you are probably SOL... perhaps you can contact Gen5DIY and ask them if they already have some defeat solution.

I just have mine set to minimum distance. It's not too intrusive unless I'm driving like a moron (or on track).

It does turn back on at max distance if you turn the car off with the setting off.

I completely disabled mine by putting Vinyl Wrap over the camera. I since replaced the small piece with a solid window banner. No errors, warnings, or CELs and now I don't have to remember to disable it every time I drive.

Welp, I sure am glad that I got the PDR in place of this thing.

Sounds like turning the sensitivity to the lowest possible setting is the solution without having to modify your car.

I have had my 2020 not for only a short time, and I dont understand why you would need to dis-able it? Mine so far has done nothing and I have mine set for max. I assume it only applies the brakes if a crash is about to happen.

These cars don’t have any type of automatic braking. It just flashes the screen and makes the sound.

I have only had the collision detection trigger a few times and it's never been annoying or throwing false positives. I don't get why one would want to disable it?

You guys tailgating or something that trigger it often?

A few commutes on I40 here in the Raleigh area and you'll soon see why. I disabled it on my 2020 Acadia because it would always be on. There's always some idiot trying to test their skills by cutting in front of you. I don't need a nanny to tell me to pay attention.

Never mind that when I might need to make an emergency control input, the last thing I want to be dealing with is some sort of alarm that would cost me time doing what I need to do. In this time where 'distracted driving' is such a hot topic, actively introducing distractions at really critical times isn't making much sense to me.

My RAM has the full forward detection with brake, never gone off. So glad I do not live in those areas anymore!

I agree, any time it has come on for me it was actually a distraction. Usually it’s oh shit I need to slow down, then as I’m starting to brake hard, noise/chimes all go off and then it’s like WTF now. Oh that thing lol.

The only way I can ever see that helping is if someone is truly not looking at the road (texting or whatever). Then maybe but idk

However I would like vehicles with automatic braking. Especially in tractor trailers. And it would only engage at speeds above 45mph for example. I would guess most fatalities that occur from lack of braking are on highways/interstates when traffic is stopped. Computer can react much faster then a human in those instances. I do a lot of highway driving for work so I’ve learned to leave a ton of distance, I’ve just seen too many close calls. But a lot of folks don’t.
