Paint Correcting heat extractor....

Has anyone paint corrected the black heat extractor on the hood. I just purchased an exposed carbon fiber one and it has some light scratches in the clear coat. My whole car was paint corrected by me as well as ceramic coated. I do remember reading in the owners manual that you couldn’t wax the heat extractor but people have done it. Was wondering if anyone out there had paint corrected their “exposed carbon fiber heat extractor”?

The exposed heat extractor on my ‘17 ZL1 was paint corrected and then covered with ppf.

The only heat extractor I remember that waxing was not recommended was the non-exposed CF on the 2012 ZL1. I believe it had a flat paint finish with no clear coat. Starting in 2013 and on into the 6th generation, all the extractors, exposed and non-exposed, have been clear coated and therefore can be sealed, coated or waxed.

My previous 2017 ZL1 owners manual definitely advised against polishing or waxing the exposed CF hood extractor. Haven’t checked the manual for my 2021 but I’d bet that recommendation is in there.

Strip wash x2. White pad + cutting polish x2. Polymer sealant x2. Hybrid/polymer wax x4. Over the last 2+ years.

Looks amazing. Just go light, flat and balanced with your orbital.

Yes, you are correct. The supplemental performance manual does warn against waxing the extractor because it could cause an uneven appearance. However, there’s no warning against polishing.

There have also been a number of threads on here where folks have paint corrected, sealed, coated or waxed the hood extractor without any issues.

Addendum—Despite the black/white warning in the owners manual.....I corrected mine, and coated it. No issues.

I Had a few light/fine scratches on one side of mine, for a quick fix I use Meguiars ScratchX, great stuff, I made two passes by hand and they disappeared.
