Camaro ZL1 1LE Aftermarket Front Rotor Weights
Camaro ZL1 1LE front 390mm rotor weight comparison. I will put out a video next week on the Racing for ALS Youtube. I'm going to DBA for this season, but was surprised that they are heavier than the factory rotors. Rotor thickness was 35.8 to 36 mm for all three disc.
Edit: Added Video Edit: Added Pricing Fronts Griodisc with Hats $1200 - KNS Brakes Girodisc Rings with Hardware $850 - KNS Brakes Factory GM complete $826 -RockAuto.com DBA Rings with Hardware Kit (reuse OEM hats) $740 - KNS Brakes

The Giros are a bigger upgrade than just the weight advantage. Brake feel is better and stopping power is better. I’ve had them on 4 cars and every single one has been an improvement.
Ken.

Unsprung weight is a big deal, multiplier affect. I wouldn't write it off.

How do you explain the brake feel and stopping power advantage? Did you have different pads or brake fluid? I'm curious.

A set of DBA rings and hardware kit is about $50 cheaper than factory full replacements at this point in time.

I’m not sure why nobody ever lists the Racing Brake ZL1/ZLE OEM sized rotor as an option, it has veined cooling like the Gyro disk, but is larger to better handle the heavier weight and faster speeds of our supercharged cars

Please also post the price for each rotor as well considering us track rats consider these consumables. Price to Value is an absolute consideration.

Same with my son's GTI and Elantra N. I used GM DOT 4 on both my Camaros and never an issue. Ken

When I tracked motorcycles I preferred immediate lever feel, similar to what you're describing. However, in the car, I actually prefer OEM. I like that the initial bite is less potent as it helps stop me from overbraking and i can trail it to the apex without locking things up. At my pace (FukkenFast), I honestly don't see Girodisc cutting any more time from my laps. In fact, I should probably be braking less. Obviously, you're very knowledgable and I respect the hell out of you. However, I just can't wrap my head around anyone wanting to change out the OEM ZL1-1LE brakes (aside from the fluid) unless they're racing at Pro level for hour-long races. |

370mm DBA front rotor rings for the SS 1LE are $290 each right know through KNS, with hardware priced at $41 per side. Kinda hard to beat that for consumable costs.
