Smile Two questions about automatic Camaro

Hello folks,

I own a Fifty edition 8 speed automatic, and currently have two questions:

1. Would it make an issue to remove the cover of the engine? I would love to have the engine - collectors visible.

2. Being automatic I can't rev it in neutral over 3500-4000. Is there any reason why its like that? I've been told I can reprogram it to be able to rev it. I changed the exhaust system and i love how it sounds, would love to make a similar noise stopped when people ask to rev it hahahahaha. Im scared if i remove that limit i might break it or something similar.

Thank you.

1. I don't believe it matters, its just a plastic engine cover.

2. It is rev limited to 4k RPM

Apologies if this information isn't accurate. Someone will chime in to correct me if I am mistaken. I know I put my car in neutral when I want to do a high rpm rev. But as you said, my car is tuned so maybe they removed it on my car?

I believe it is a feature GM used to protect themselves from transmission warranty claims from hooning antics from drivers (and rentals). I can already see the attempts of revving out in Park and dropping down to Drive . Thank goodness GM has faith in us 6 speed manual drivers, no such restrictions for us.

The other work-around is to put the car in Manual 1st gear, press the brake hard, and rev it up for about 5-6 seconds.

*cough*

Usually people do that at the dragstrip though.

Cover is easy, just remove coil pack covers and it's a couple bolts then off

Once you see the ugly manifold you may want to put it back on though

Good way to damage a motor free reving over 4000rpm. There's a reason they limit it.

It's in the rev limit per gear tables. Park and Neutral are limited to 4k rpm.

When it comes to reving a motor, be it automatic or manu, do they get affected equally? Or do automatics get damaged in a different way?

I wasn't going to say anything but to further add fuel to the fire:

Someone forgot to tell all the track stars on these forums running at 4000-6600 rpms on track with their cars they shouldn't do this.

Or anyone on the dragstrip.

My understanding is these cars are designed and built with performance tolerances. As such, below redline good, above redline bad.

Wear and tear is no different otherwise. Shy of reving 4000+ for 30 minutes straight and only driving 5 miles.

Sure the car has low mileage but the engine has more wear and tear than the mileage of the car.

Yep, the old "Neutral Drop". When I was younger I had a '68 El-Camino with 327 and 3-speed auto. Let my brother borrow it one night. Next day I started it and put in drive and the drive shaft fell on the ground. Both u-joints and the diff yoke broke. 2 weeks later blown seals in the tranny. Suffice to say, I never lent my brother anything EVER AGAIN!!
