Failing oil pump
I have a 2022 SS 1le fbo tuned by gpi. I run full e85 all the time. Last night in heavy traffic I noticed while on a stand still my oil pressure was around 25psi part acceleration is around 40, heavy acceleration is around 42. Haven’t done wot I don’t want to blow the engine lol. Are these symptoms of a failing oil pump? I messaged a local known shop quoted me $1700 for everything with oem pump, should I go with a katech? Or should I do a oil change and see if that’s the problem? Oil seems good and full
Don’t know what part of the forum to post this so this is my second post 🥲 |

Assuming Mike will chime in any moment... for what its worth... my idle pressure is around 35 and cruising is 40 +/-
25 does sound a little low... but I think the concerning number is 20psi.

In my experience, idle oil pressure depends on recent load "history", too. Normal idle should be around 30-32 psi, high idle around 34-36 psi, I regularly see both on my car.
That said, I don't recall a single time my oil pressure would've dipped into the 20s. Just a conjecture, but your oil pump may have begun to fail with a hairline crack---if that's the case, it's going to slowly worsen until it reaches the catastrophic failure point around 18-20 psi. The other red flag is your WOT oil pressure, it's way too low and should be 60+ psi (hope I'm not misremembering NA V8 oil pressures, though).

Yea I kind of figured. I thought by this time gm would of fixed this problem. My car is fbo so I don’t think dealer will want to fix it. Either way 1700 isn’t too much . I’ll change my oil and filter. It’ll fluctuate from 30 to around 25 every couple seconds on idle.

25lbs is concerning, but yes could be oil issue.

I’ve had the same problem on my turbo 5.3 psi was around 20 , changed the oil and it’s been good ever since. Hope this fixes it, I’ll update when I do a oil change on Wednesday . For now it’ll remain parked in my garage
