Regarding cars as investments, here's my experience. I was a Ford guy in my younger years. I specialized in '69 - '70 Mustangs and owned all of the desirable versions including boss 302 & 429s and Cobra jet Mach 1s. I got out of the Mustang business when life - wife, kids, job, etc got in the way. I did keep one car though, a '69 Boss 429 that I had around $25k into. I originally purchased this car in '79. According to Google, the dow has returned 8.9% since its inception. My 25k in '79 would now be worth just under one million today.
If we're talking Mustangs, unless a car has a racing pedigree, a Boss 429 is about as good as it gets value wise and it still did not prove to be a good investment. Admittedly, a ZL1or Baldwin/nickey/Yenko , Camaro in perfect condition could possibly bring seven figures, but the vast majority of cars in this category would not have come close to matching a good index fund.

True, but most ZL1 buyers don't care as much about super extreme handling (especially those over age 40, which is most of the market buying $70K+ cars), and many of those that do care, are buying the ZL1 1LE or Corvettes. Sure it sounds great for bench top bragging rights, but mostly, it's just an emotional purchase of a 650HP, cool car...

And my point was not that it's a classic already, just that convertibles are typically worth more. (I sold my 2018 Mustang GT Convertible last year for almost what I paid for it new.)
