Thinking of going Procharged and need advice.
I am thinking about going Procharger on my stock LT1 and needing some advice.
I am currently stock with the exception of a drag pack, but at the time of install of a FI system I would be doing full length headers and off road x pipe and retaining my NPP back portion. My future plans would be to do a cam and e85 swap, which I have been reading people successfully getting 720ish Rwhp with the LT4 fuel upgrade, is this accurate? If I plan to do those upgrades later what head unit would I be better off going with? I want a stage II tuner kit since I have a local tuner I will be working with, and plan on going with the race bypass valve. I was looking at the D1SC and the D1X. Any helpful advice is much appreciated. Thanks. |

Why wouldn't you think about a Magnuson also. Instant boost, no converter needed 550 rwhp with conservative tune and 560 rwt. Ask Drsagacity how his runs, mine made 544 and put a drag pack on it and went 10.82@129 first weekend out. Just saying.

Oh man, you know how we all start off with reasonable goals and go above and beyond. For now I would say at some point to have a fun car I can cruise around in but throw my drag pack on and run some mid to low 10's at some point. Just enough to make a few hellcat owners cry and not have to cage my car out.

Isn't there more room for power gains later down the line with a procharger over a Magnuson?

In theory yes. Because a PD charger can only be so big. The higher end pro chargers are enormous. But honestly unless you’re going for records and stuff, (as far as I know most of the records are with F1xx prochargers), the Maggie is a great option too. Though having driven both, on the street the Maggie seems to want to blow the tires off more because the boost comes in at a much lower RPM. Procharger feels more like a turbo car to me. Which personally I like better but everyone is different.

I ran the Procharger on a couple Vettes. I really liked it. At the end, I was running nearly 800rwhp. However, I will also tell you, to get there with my Procharger, I had to make a bunch of sacrifices from a drivability perspective.
That leads me to second the question from Hard Parker, what are your goals? If you want to build a track car and replace the motor for bigger ci, if you don’t mind changing gears, converter, etc... it’s hard to argue with the F1 Procharger. It’s completely bad ass. That being said, if you are planning mostly street with some track time, then the Maggie might be a better choice. Why? 1. the Procharger builds boost as the RPMs climb. This means it’s powerband is much higher. As a byproduct, to get the most from the boost, you also need to add a converter if you are running an a8. If not, the lag forma centrifugal blower will be disappointing...as will track times. 2. The problem I had with the Procharger was, in order to get the most out of it, I also had to sacrifice stock drivability. Gears, converter, etc...let’s just say for me, those sacrifices ended up in a situation where my wife hated riding in the car... My $.02, if you want to build a track car, go F1 and you can’t go wrong. If you want a street car that will crush it at the track, but still drive like stock until you hit it...consider Maggie. I have had both and love both...for different reasons. It really comes down to your end goal.

On completely stock tires, I have loved to go from 1st to 2nd, shifting manually, then around forty mph, hit to D and go ahead to smash it...tires break loose a little as the car just takes off... In either situation, Maggie or Procharger, first gear is useless with street tires.

If you look at my sig you'll see the Maggie makes plenty of power. I'm on stock motor, exhaust, suspension plus I'm over stock weight with the RPM roll bar. I have done the fuel upgrade and I run a drag pack at the track and just ran 10.03@138 and mine made 703/692 at the wheel. I punish this setup every weekend I make it to the track. You won't have to worry about making power safely and having a shit load of fun doing it.

I have the Lingenfelter Big Bore Pump, lt4 injectors and smaller 75 mm pulley making 15 lbs of boost. Motor is bone stock.

What if I did a cam and say a d1sc stage II kit, and a set of headers with offroad mid pipe, would the LT1 fuel system be able to hold up to that so long as I keep the psi at a reasonable level? Would going with a decent supercharger cam force me into having to install a TC right away or would it be fine to do at a later time? |

Seems like you are looking for exactly what "PRAY" on this forum did... He proved you don't have to go crazy, and get really amazing results. |

Now no matter what power adder you got, you are trying to figure out how to NOT make low end TQ. Cause you want to actually get off the line. (for a daily driver) I drive a 5.0L (as everyone says "lacks TQ" and its "gutless") with an A10 and a ProCharger... and its literally scary at anything below 70mph. Nothing but tire spinning lol. Car is stone stock other then blower. |
