Over flow tank cap

Tried to remove my radiator over flow tank cap while the engine was cold. It turned a little but then got very tight. What am I doing wrong?

You're doing nothing wrong. It will do that but just keep going.

You cannot turn in clockwise as it has locking tabs. When I turn it counter clockwise it gets so tight I think it will brake.

if you're referring to the top tank, it is not an overflow tank and should be full all of the time. the lower tank is the overflow and has a full cold mark and is filled via a cap that pops open.

i'm saying this because you can pour coolant in the top part all day and none of it will get to the reservoir aka overflow.

edit: yes that twist cap can be stubborn.

Yes, you are correct. The tank on the top is full and bottom tank is not when cold. Tank on top has a cap and will not come off.

You just turn it counterclockwise and then lift the cap up. Works pretty much just like any other coolant tank cap.

The bottom tank should be half full when cold. There is a line on the tank you can use as a reference.

Lastly...
