so i havent been to the track since feb and sometimes i bring my gopro sometimes i leave it at home and i brought it yesterday and realized i have a gopro 3 and it sucks lol video quality is ok but its shaky and the wind noise is horrible and wonder if its worth it to upgrade to the new new one what do yall think?

The new gopro 9 compared to the hero3 is a night and day difference you will not regret upgrading

I hate my GoPro8. Cant believe the Hero9 is going to be much better. Yaw stability during Autocross makes stabilized footage unusable. It’s as if the camera is on a swivel and will start “looking” out the side window. Better on track, but still not great. Also, the phone connectivity only works 1/3 of the time. Wholly inconsistent, which prevents you from aiming camera, viewing media, etc. Finally, their software is worthless. Capped at 30 second clips.

I was super pumped to get my first GoPro last year, but the bugs, software limits, horrible battery life, and hypersmooth yaw deficiencies make me feel like we’re all actively beta testing for them...except they don’t care. Just check their support forums, full of consistent negative feedback on common issues; some of which I’ve listed.

I have a GoPro Hero 7 Silver, which I have used in the past on my RX-8 when I ran AutoX. I haven't used it in a year, though. Just using my PDR now. Didn't have much trouble with it when I used it.

GoPro in general gives me the impression that their hardware team actually makes an effort for a good product, but the software team is high or drunk(probably both) all the time.

Regarding the wind noise, do you have a sponge case for your GoPro? I had some trouble with that until I installed a sponge case, and it only recorded the rotary scream and tire screeches without the wind noise. Perfect.

Seems to me that shake in the video is mostly going to come from the mount rather than the camera itself.

Are you mounting yours outside the car where it's going to be subjected to buffeting as well as wind noise?

yea usually do suction cup mount to quarter window i have the tow hook mount but too scared to try it out haha

I used a 7. I don't have any shaking. You gotta use an external mic on all of them though those internal mics are horrible. And if you want to use it beyond it's small capabilities you'll want a real camera. But mounting it to the car it's good

If you stick your GoPro out in the wind nd drive real fast, of course you're going to get wind noise. I run the mic adapter and an external mic clipped to my rear license plate. All you hear is exhaust and a bit of rear tire squeal. There is a setting to turn the vibration reduction off.
