Loose feeling rear end.

A few weeks ago I was doing some spirited driving for ‘reasons.’ Initially I was in Sport mode. I noticed that hard lane changes at speed were giving me a bit more rear end wiggle than I’ve experienced in the past. Basically a bit of left to right wiggle after the change. Nannies were on. The last time I did any high speed runs I was on stock Goodyears, this time I had all seasons on it. Switching to Track damped it down a bit but it still felt less connected than I remembered.

Tires? Or just faulty memory on my part. I’ve heard of swapping some ZL1 bushings out for improved performance, but I don’t know exactly which ones and if that might improve rear end stability.

I get it in my car there's a thread on it but basically no one knows why or how to remedy it. Most thoughts go to the e-Diff doing it's job. It's unsettling though.

GYSC3 to all season? Yup, that'd do it, big difference in traction and grip levels

Probably due to those new tires for the most part, but you can get the BMR rear cradle lockout kit as I did (an easier install, you just need new TTY suspension bolts), or install those nice ZL1 1LE solid aluminum cradle bushings (trickier, because you also have to torch the old ones out), to improve rear end stability, ie. to reduce the wiggle.

The BMR looks almost doable for me. The solid aluminum is more appealing but I would definitely have to pay someone to do that for me.

Tires will make a big difference in feel. If this was your first comparison with spirited driving in the new tires. Different compound, different tread, softer sidewall. Going from the stock tires to an all season as posted above, will make a massive difference. Try to mess with the PSI of the tires too, that could help a bit getting a bit of control back from the rear end.

It's the tire change. There's no way the cradle bushings are playing a part here with the amount of loading the chassis is seeing on the street. Especially on the less grip tires.

I would say it's a combination of both tires and the rubber subframe bushings.

I just installed the ZLE solids in my rear end. It's not that hard of a job. I did it with the subframe pretty much in the car yet.

Check out my build thread for pictures of the install.

Also when was the last time you got an alignment?

Rear toe doesn't hold for shit in these cars. messed up toe alignment can also cause what you are mentioning.

Thanks for the responses. I've thought about getting another set of rims for summer tires. It may be time to pull the trigger on that and to get a 4 wheel alignment.

Technically you are supposed to replace 4 rear bolts whenever you get an alignment so you should buy those and bring them with you if you do get an alignment. It is also not a bad idea to find and print the torque specs for these bolts to give to the tech to make sure they tighten them enough.

I agree with others that it is likely the tire switch that caused your issue. If the alignment is badly off you should see uneven tire wear or the car should pull to one side.
