Code is back. I put the brand new sensor in the intake, and the code is still throwing. I'll try the VVT sensors in the front. What's weird is that a few weeks ago, I got a P0018 code. Now I'm just getting p0020.

The connector with the yellow wire is intake bank 2. So that should be the sensor to replace. P0020 is supposedly specific to intake bank 2.
I would put the old exhaust cam sensor back on and put the new sensor in the intake bank 2 spot. If the part numbers are identical for intake and exhaust, you could probably just take the exhaust sensor you removed and swap it for the (presumed bad) intake sensor. |

Yeah, as soon as I got the code again, I switched the sensors. The brand new sensor is now in intake bank 2. The cords look fine. I'm not much of an electrician, but I have an ohms meter. I'll check the continuity sometime soon.

I figured you got it working and did everything right.
![]() I just thought it would be good to follow up here in case anyone stumbles across this thread with a P0020. |

P0018 is a correlation failure between the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor. With the p0020 it all still points to intake sensor problem. So it all fits. |

I got this code before, it ended up being the intake actuator, i would clear the codes and it would come back a day or so later normally after hard acceleration. you can swap the intake actuator between the two sides and see if the code travels to the other bank. I ended up buying all 4 off RockAuto so i didn't have to deal with it again for a bit.

I would never buy anything but OEM parts for sensors. Too much aftermarket junk out there auto parts stores buy and relabel.

If it's buried deep in the engine, I go OEM. Something like this, which is really a simple Hall sensor, and relatively easy to get to, I would not worry as much. Usually stores like autozone are pretty liberal with their warranties on these. So you get a replacement with just a trip to the store. Just file the receipt.

I still haven't gotten around to replacing the VVT sensors. I finally called O'Reillys today and they said there is only one single sensor available to specially order. All other sensors are on backorder. I also did do the ultimate swap today. I swapped all sensors from bank 1 and 2. Fingers crossed that the code throws on the other bank. Can anyone confirm if all four VVT sensors are the same? Do intake and exhaust use different sensors? They looked the same to me as I was swapping them.

I think this is the part for the 2017 V6, with the same part number shared by intake and exhaust: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...enoid-12679721 |
