Ordered a set of Hawk DTC-60 (f/r) and Hawk Street/Race (f/r) for my 1LE today.

The Street/Race pad is very similar to the HP+/DTC-30. I will be using them for AutoX.

I will update the thread with fitment info and pics when I get them and some spare time.

BTW - when it comes to brake fluid...I plan on running Castrol SRF with changes every 6 months or after every track day...whichever comes 1st.

You completely change fluid after every track day? Or just bleed it? Changing it out every time seems overkill don't you think?

Just bleed unless I feel like I boiled it.

The high temp stuff absorbs moisture so fast here in humid Flordia, I bleed every six months of street driving, too.

That's the only quantifiable number in that document you posted. The rest is totally subjective 'ad-speak'.

BTW - pretty much everyone posts the info you tout as only coming from Raybestos.

http://www.tirerack.com/images/pdf/p...und-Charts.pdf

Driving styles are different. I have personally used Hawk and Carbotech and think they are both great products.

I am just trying to pass on info on what fits these cars when people begin to track them.

If you like, we could start arguing about brake fluids next.
I've also used Carbotech and Hawk pads, I also think they're great products I just find the Raybestos pads last longer and less aggressive on rotors.. but I agree with you for someone who doesn't track as much cost may not be an important factor

BTW, I meant corrosive not abrasive, DTC60 pads are notorious for the corrosive dust that eats up wheel paint, google is your friend

You're also correct about the Mu factor that should also give us an idea about the harness on the rotors though.

You are completely correct and I forgot about that issue. I have seen OEM/painted wheels get pitted by hot brake dust particles. Didn't occur to me that was a Hawk specific problem.

yes, orange/bronze dust is very common with all the aggressive pads but they won't do any harm to the wheels or paint like DTC 60/70 pads, at least in my case I never had any issue and was able to wash it away.
If I remember correctly that was the material in the Hawk pads
compound causing the issue.

Just to update the thread...

Swapped to DTC-30s for Sebring today.

Some notes on the install.

The rear brakes are the same Caliper as the SS Brembo kit.

Fronts have two pins and a bolt. The bolt is on the Caliper backside and is 13mm.

The Caliper pistons are small and easy to push in with your fingers.

The hawk pad numbers listed in the original post all fit.

Btw - everyone else probably knew this already, but the OEM pad is made by Fredoro

Front caliper on the SS 1LE is the same as the C7 Z06 - Iron disc

Carbotech part # is CT1405
XP8/10/12/20 readily available in this pad size

Hawk Part # is HB649(compound letter).605
Hawk makes practically every compound for this size

Hawk Compound letter codes are:
F - HPS, G - DTC-60, U - DTC-70, W - DTC-30, R - Street Race

So a front DTC-60 pad set would be HB649G.605

Rear brake is the standard SS Brembo.
Hawk says GM originally provided them with incorrect information about the rear pad size. The rear caliper on the SS is the rear caliper on the C7 'vette.
The web site database is being updated. The correct part number is the HB727, not the HB194.

Hawk part # is HB727(compound letter).592

OEM rotors (Front) MSRP for $674.
Part#
23142500 (R)
23189768 (L)

GMpartsdirect.com has them for $377.

Happy tracking!
Been searching for this info. Thanks for breaking it down.

These same pad numbers work for the optional 6 piston fronts on the SS correct?

Thanks for the info!

I'll be getting Carbotech's. I ran XP12's up front and XP10's out back on my '07 RS4 and they were phenomenal. The transition back to street pads (1521's, or "bobcats") was very nice and I had no issues. The only semi-related issue I had was I was starting to boil my fluid, but a quick bleed at the track fixed it.

And I agree that you shouldn't stick with one kind of pad because of word of mouth, maybe try another brand and see what you think. When I sold my RS4, I sent the track pads along with it and they had plenty of track sessions left on them.

FYI - just got home from Sebring.

I had full brake all day. 4x20min sessions. Faster each session. Ambient started at 75F and ended at 86F.

I always had more brake than I needed. Good feeling.
