Does anyone know how to fix the Automatic Shudder problem with the 8 speed?
I already changed the fluid before and now its back again, is it a valve problem? Do i have to flush it again? If so, can anyone give me the exact Fluid capacity it takes, Thanks alot

There are many threads on this.
Fixing the problem requires changing the fluid before there is too much wear on the clutches within the torque converter. Once they are too worn, you will need a new torque converter and the fluid changes will not help. |

Will a factory torque convertor be good enough? It was the wrong fluid, not the design of the original convertor, correct?

Yes, it is not the converter itself causing the problem. Wrong fluid caused premature wear of the clutches within the converter. The old fluid attracted water, and it's a case of the old "oil and water don't mix" problem.

If this Camaro went 35k miles on the original converter and fluid, it's way overdue for the flush. In that case, check for the presence of even a hint of a shudder for peace of mind, but even if there is none, take the car in for a transmission flush as per technical service bulletin 18-NA-355. You should be able to recreate the shudder (not really a sound per se but a vibration experience similar to driving over rumble strips along lane dividers) the most easily by driving under low load conditions, 45-50 mph in 8th gear, on a level or slightly uphill road for at least half a mile or so. If the service department refuses to perform this (the TSB does say it isn't applicable in Canada), go for 19-NA-018, its Canadian counterpart—although I will say that it seems to be an old version of 18-NA-355 and still prescribes a triple flush and mandatory picoscope verification, so at least make absolutely sure they use the correct fluid introduced in Jan 2019, which is Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP with the blue label (part number 19417577), see picture below. The part number may differ for Canada, but the fluid must be the same, otherwise the shudder will return and eventually take out the torque converter clutch, as ctrlz alluded to above (GM took multiple attempts at fixing the problem, so several previous fluid versions exist).

It definitely has the shudder, I feel it often.
Are these TSBs supposed to be free, the car is out of factory warranty, so I was just going to change fluid myself. I did get an aftermarket warranty but it will not cover any of this I’m sure. |

The shudder may have advanced to a point where the TC clutch is too worn, but that's impossible to tell without pulling the transmission. I would probably request a new torque converter (and obviously the new fluid) to make sure the shudder does not return.

As others have said fixing the shudder requires changing your transmission fluid to the new one with the limited slip additive. If your tranny has been shaking for a while it's possible that you might need a clutch replacement
