Steering Feel?
Just took my car out of winter storage and noticed the steering feel seems off. I just got it last year on Labor Day and drove about 1500 miles before winter. Since having it out this spring I’ve noticed the steering wheel seems to strongly return to center at any speed. And when I try to curve left or right on a curvy road, it takes some effort to get past center to either direction. Like there is a defined center resting spot in the steering. This is mainly only felt at speeds over 30.
I don’t remember if this was the same last year and I just missed it? Can anyone else explain how their car steers at speed. Is it smooth across the center section? Because mine feels like there’s a magnet holding it in the middle. Otherwise it drives straight and handles great. 23 1ss 1le. |

Don't know what steering mode are you on, tour or track?

Same tire pressure as the previous episodes? These cars are sensitive to tire pressure changes.

Have driven in both tour and sport. Same feeling with increased weight in sport.
As for tire pressure, I considered that but don’t remember what they were from the dealer. I aired them up to about 40psi cold for winter and back down to 34 when I took it out. Highest they got while driving this year was 37. |

I do not detect that strong "on center" feel you are describing in my 1LE.
I would wonder if your power steering unit is not providing enough boost, but then it probably wouldn't just be reluctant to move off center so much as to move from any position to another? I think the rack may be variable rate depending how far off center you go. Maybe if something were wrong with that (can it change over time?) you could see a problem? |

Steering bushings on my WRX gave a similar feel when they started to go.

Tire Pressure, set it to the spec. That's your baseline. Adjust off of that and let us know if you feel any change. Ambient temps play a part because the tires will generate heat, so remember that if you play between different ambient temps. Cold temps will not allow the tires to build too much pressure. A few variables here are part of the feel.
I'd rule out a change on alignment because of low miles and how fresh the car is.

I talked to the dealer about a reset for the Electric Power Steering and they are looking into it. I just can't imagine what would have happened to cause a need for the steering to have anything done. |
